OpenAI opens ChatGPT to Apps With New Developer SDK

At DevDay 2025, OpenAI introduced a new Apps SDK that lets developers build apps running directly inside ChatGPT. This means users can design in Canva, search homes on Zillow, or book travel without leaving the conversation. According to The Verge, the move marks a major step toward transforming ChatGPT from a simple chatbot into a full platform.


The initial version is now available in preview for select developers, with app submissions, a public directory, and monetization options expected later this year. By opening ChatGPT to third-party integrations, OpenAI is positioning its tool not only as an assistant for generating text but also as a hub for productivity and services, potentially challenging traditional app stores and reshaping how people interact with software in everyday life.
