Pretty much everyone will be able to relate to that feeling of “being stuck” at least at one point in their lives. That feeling of every single day keeping you held in the exact same place you don’t want to be, where it feels impossible to actually move forward into a better place or push through the current obstacles that life has thrown you.

Brooke Summer Adams, Internationally Accredited Transformation Coach, NLP Master Practitioner, International Speaker, Trainer, and Writer, and Yahoo Finances’ Top 10 Female Life Coach of 2021 is here today to talk you through the actual process she takes her 1-2-1 clients through to get unstuck and make things happen.

1. Realise you’re not stuck

You are not literally stuck. You FEEL stuck which is very different. Even if you feel like there’s no way forward, that doesn’t mean it’s true. Just because you feel like things will never change, doesn’t mean they won’t. Just because you don’t feel able to do the things you want to do, doesn’t mean that’s true. Likewise, just because you feel stuck, doesn’t mean that’s true either. Know that there is always a good reason for why you are currently where you are. Know that the place that you currently are will always proceed to the place you want to be. It’s simply a stepping stone, it’s a part of the journey, you are always where you are supposed to be.

With every day that passes you become older and wiser, and you gain an extra day of experience in life that you’ve never had before. With every day that passes, you get closer to the place where you will inevitably end up. Even if you wanted to, you could never actually be stuck. There will be insights, experiences, ideas, or knowledge to gain from the place you currently find yourself that will be necessary to get where you want to be, that’s just how life works. As soon as this becomes your truth, you’ll realize that you are never stuck just preparing for the inevitable move.

2. Take the pressure off

The number one reason people feel unsatisfied with the place they find themselves, is because they believe there is somewhere else they “should” be. The truth is, you’re always where you’re supposed to be. Not knowing always comes before knowing. We need to be aware that we are not where we want to be in order to even have the initiative to change something. The bottom line is, that there’s nothing wrong with you for being where you are, and there’s nothing to beat yourself up for. Take the pressure off, moving forward becomes a lot easier when you get yourself on your own side.

3 Focus on what you want

This is the next biggest reason people find themselves feeling stuck they’re focusing on everything they DON’T want. On a subconscious level, you need something positively stated to move TOWARDS. We move away from the negatives, and towards the positives. If you are focusing solely on what you don’t want, you’re going to find it incredibly difficult to move forwards because you have nothing to move towards. And if what you don’t want is with you in the present day, then you can’t move away from it either (unless you have the ability to go back in time). So this naturally creates the perception and feeling of being stuck. As soon as you focus on what you DO want, you’ll naturally begin to move towards it, and the perception and feeling of forwarding momentum will resume once more.

4. Figure out the first action step, and take it

Now that you’ve realized you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be, taken the pressure off yourself to always remain in a state of constant movement, and refocused on everything that you do want it’s time to take action. Simply, figure out the very first small step you can take to get closer to where you want to be and take it. Don’t overthink or worry about the steps that will follow those will become clear after you take the first. As soon as you take that one small piece of the action, you’ll return to the mindset of progression, which will not only highlight to you how to continue progressing but will make it feel a lot easier to do.

5. Get a coach

A coach will be able to help you shift your mindset from a place of being stuck to a place of momentum and forward movement. They’ll be able to help you get clear on what you want and figure out the steps you can take to get it. They’ll be able to hold you accountable for the action you plan to take and manage your thoughts and emotions while you move from where you currently are, to where you want to be.
