Astrocartography is trending, and Condé Nast Traveler called it one of the travel trends for 2025. With remote work, digital nomadism, and politically motivated relocations on the rise, this branch of Astrology, often also referred to as Locational Astrology, is more in demand than ever.

What is astrocartography?

Astrocartography explores the relationship between a birth chart and geographical locations. In simple terms, it involves overlaying a birth chart over the world map to show the best locations for feeling at home, finding love, or career and business success.

Jim Lewis, author of the book “The Psychology of Astro*Carto*Graphy”, is universally considered as the “founding father” of Astrocartography as we know it today.

How astrocartography can benefit career and business

By looking at the combination of vertical planetary lines and horizontal lines (the latter are often referred to as Parans) on the Astrocartography map, each with varying orbs of intensity, along with relocated charts (while our birth chart is our blueprint for life, each location changes our birth chart resulting in a relocated chart), it is possible to identify the most suitable locations based on specific career or business goals. To not complicate things, to start with it is advisable to focus on one main goal and an optional secondary goal.

Key planetary lines to consider

While a Venus line is often associated with love and a Mercury line with communication, it is much more nuanced than that, and the impact varies based on an individual's unique birth chart. For career success, the MC (Medium Coeli or Midheaven) lines are particularly important as they indicate locations that amplify public presence and professional recognition.

Remote activation

Traveling or moving to a favorable location is not always necessary to reap the rewards of Astrocartography. This concept, known as Remote Activation, involves bringing the energy of beneficial places into everyday life through food, art, culture, language, and even targeted online interactions. This is specifically great for business owners looking to attract new clients or job seekers who can look for remote jobs with companies located in beneficial locations.

How to generate an astrocartography map

Free Astrology websites offer basic mapping tools, but these come with limitations. Working with a professional Astrocartographer provides a more comprehensive analysis, incorporating advanced techniques and professional mapping software. Especially when relocating for career and business, you do not want to chance it.

To generate an accurate Astrocartography map, as with anything in Astrology, it is essential to use precise birth details, as even being a few minutes off in time can significantly alter the results. Whenever possible, obtain the exact birth time from an official document, such as a birth certificate ,rather than relying on anecdotes from family members. If this is not feasible, consult an Astrologer specializing in birth time rectification, who can reconstruct the birth time using available information.

Real-life success story

I myself have a very supportive career line just west of Stockholm, Sweden which signifies the amplification of my public status centered around communication. This has, in the past, brought me many high-profile work and career opportunities in Sweden and from people and businesses with a connection to Stockholm, even though I do not live in Sweden. What is more, I am writing this article as a newly minted Executive Contributor of Brainz Magazine, a company based in Stockholm, Sweden, who reached out to me about this opportunity out of nowhere. So, I am the best example of how Astrocartography works in practice.

Tips for using astrocartography

  • The number one disclaimer is that there usually is no such thing as a 100% perfect place: We can only aim to find the most ideal place by working with the lines present. Even the most favorable line does not guarantee that everything will work out perfectly. Planetary lines and relocated charts are best understood when supported by Parans for a more comprehensive perspective.

  • Trust your intuition: Use Astrocartography as a guide and a source of knowledge to support your decisions, but always consider your intuition where possible. For example, if you feel drawn to a particular location, there may be a lesson or story waiting for you to unfold there. It is worth exploring, even if the Astrocartography does not appear immediately favorable.

  • Before relocating, try visiting the location: Personal and client experiences reveal that even if a location looks favorable from an Astrocartography perspective, one might not resonate with the location’s vibe. Other factors, such as weather, culture, or access to transportation, can significantly impact the experience. Whenever possible, it is advisable to visit the location beforehand to ensure it aligns with one’s preferences and lifestyle.

  • It may take time to feel the full effects of a location: While our birth chart serves as our blueprint for life, relocating recalculates it into what’s known as a relocated chart. The effects of this shift can take a few months to unfold fully. Additionally, moving to a new location can influence our relationships, as we adopt a slightly different “personality” in response to the new energies

  • A location may feel great one year but not the next: Several factors can influence how we experience a location over time. Beyond the fact that we evolve as individuals, changes in our lives, such as shifting goals, career or business priorities, or even challenging transits, can all play a role. What feels ideal now may not resonate in the future, and that’s completely natural. To take it one step further, Cyclocartography can also be used in an Astrocartography reading to incorporate timing through the combination of transits and secondary progressions to find the best place to go for a blissful birthday, plan a move or travels, or for maximum impact at a business conference.
