You and everything around you are energy. Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. From a spiritual perspective, this means you also have the ability to transform. We all come from the same energetic source, and when we understand that we are energy first, we can accept ourselves as electrochemical beings.

This means we have the ability to shift our energy at any time.

In Qigong, the Lower Dan Tien is sometimes associated with what are referred to as the Root and Sacral chakras. It is seen as the engine that built you in your mother’s womb. It is home to our womb space or womb portal. It connects to our legs and feet, which, in turn, connect us to Mother Earth. It is also the point where our torso, the Inner Gate, meets the lower half of our body.

This energy centre is understood as the interface between our physical body, our Spirit, and the material world. It is said to be influenced by the Fourth Ray of Creation, which empowers you to avoid becoming trapped in illusion. It empowers you to end the endless cycles of seeking to fulfill lower bodily, carnal, or human desires. It helps you see the world as a tool for growth and self-awareness and as a way to spiritualize human or physical activities.

Emotionally and mentally, these energy centres are associated with safety, security, stability, physical identity on the Earth plane, and grounding. Within traditional energy frameworks, they are physically linked to the reproductive glands, large intestines, bones, legs, liver, kidneys, bladder, urinary tract, sexual organs, and adrenal glands.

These energy centres are associated with one’s ability to feel pleasure, joy, and creativity and are linked to sexuality. A universal love for life, our sense of connection and community, our feelings of security, and our ability to have healthy relationships with others are believed to develop in the Lower Dan Tien. When this energy is activated, open, and aligned, we feel worthy, experience a sense of flow in life, and have healthy connections within our relationships and soul families.

Creative energy, often referred to as Kundalini energy, is believed to arise from the Root and Sacral chakra centres in the Lower Dan Tien. It represents the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine working in harmony, with life force energy arising from the bottom of the root energy centre.

This life force energy allows us to create the life we want to live. We can use these energies to create art and writing, as well as healthy relationships, whether they are romantic relationships, friendships, or familial ties. This energy can also support healthy sexual practices when we are self-aware of our emotional patterns. It can help us develop healthier relationships not only with our bodies but also with our minds and spirits.

When creative energy is misused, it can keep us stagnant and repeating unhealthy relationship and survival patterns. Within this framework, when we understand how energy may become stuck in our bodies, particularly in the pelvic and hip regions following sexual or emotional trauma or physical injury, we can work toward releasing it and creating healthier versions of ourselves and our lives.

If you have experienced sexual trauma, pregnancy, childbirth, or another pelvic injury and are dealing with pain, weakness, or dysfunction, it is important to consult an appropriate health professional, such as a qualified osteopath or pelvic floor therapist, to ensure your muscles are functioning optimally. Tending to your physical needs and healing physical wounds may help you build the strength to face the emotional discomfort that can arise from working with your body in this way.

Within this approach, releasing stuck energy from the pelvic region is considered one of the keys to healing and is believed to be closely connected to the Heart. When we are cut off from ourselves and do not allow creative energy to flow freely, our energy as a whole can become stagnant.

In Qigong, standing in a horse stance engages and strengthens the muscles and connective tissues in the body, particularly around the pelvic region. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Bend your knees and tuck your pelvis in slightly. Imagine a silver, blue, or golden thread running from your crown, down your spine, and connecting you to the earth.

In Baguazhang, mud stepping is a wonderful way to enter a meditative state if you have difficulty staying still while meditating. It helps you focus on grounding through your feet. The posture you hold while mud stepping encourages you to concentrate on the body rather than becoming stuck in mental or emotional energy. It is a helpful way to get out of your head and engage the fascia networks in the body. Over time, it may also help you feel calmer under pressure or stress.

Mud stepping is also said to activate the Bubbling Well acupuncture point on the sole of the foot. Within traditional practice, this activation is believed to allow the energy of the Earth to enter the body naturally. It also engages the calf muscles and Achilles tendon, supporting movement and circulation in the lower legs and feet.
