Sebastiaan van der Velden, Life Coach & Transformational Guide

What’s your purpose, mission, and driving force for all the work you do?

My purpose as a transformational guide and life coach emerged from my own journey of personal discovery and growth. When I found myself struggling to adapt to a new culture after relocating to a different country, my career hung in the balance. What began as a professional challenge evolved into a transformative revelation about the disconnect many of us experience between our hearts and minds.

During this challenging period, I discovered that I was operating primarily from my analytical mind, disconnected from the wisdom of my heart. This insight came at a crucial moment when I was at risk of losing my job. Through the practice of meditation and self-regulation techniques, I learned to bridge the gap between my heart and brain, unlocking a new way of perceiving and engaging with the world around me.

My personal transformation revealed a pattern I now see frequently in my work: people find themselves trapped in cycles of overthinking, relying solely on analytical processes while disconnecting from their heart's wisdom. This head-only approach often leads to a fixation on worst-case scenarios and limited thinking, rather than opening up to creative solutions and new possibilities.

Now, my mission is to guide others through this transformative process, helping them access the profound wisdom that comes from heart-brain integration. Through teaching the same meditation and self-regulation techniques that changed my life, I empower my clients to:

  • Develop a more balanced approach to decision-making

  • Access their intuitive wisdom

  • Expand their perspective on possibilities

  • Create more meaningful connections with others

  • Navigate challenges with greater resilience and creativity

There is nothing more fulfilling than watching my clients experience their own awakening as they reconnect with their heart's wisdom. Seeing them discover a new world of possibilities, watching their perspectives broaden, and witnessing their growth as they learn to integrate heart and mind—this is what drives my work as a transformational guide.

What kind of audience do you target your business toward?

I serve two primary groups:

First, I work with individuals ready to actively transform their lives. The key is their willingness to engage in real change, not just wish for it.

These clients typically come to me when they're ready to:

  • Transform their career trajectory and unlock new professional possibilities

  • Enhance their personal relationships and communication patterns

  • Improve their emotional well-being and stress management capabilities

  • Address physical health concerns through holistic mind-heart integration

  • Break free from limiting thought patterns and behaviors

Second, I partner with organizations dealing with high-stress environments. I help transform workplaces from crisis-driven to creative spaces by teaching teams self-regulation and heart-brain coherence techniques. This shift enables better problem-solving, reduced stress, and increased innovation. These organizations often share common characteristics:

  • Teams operating in fast-paced, demanding environments

  • Workplaces where constant crisis management has become the norm

  • Organizations seeking to move from reactive to proactive approaches

  • Companies wanting to enhance creativity and innovation through stress reduction

  • Leadership teams looking to transform workplace culture

In both cases, my clients are committed to positive change and open to accessing their heart intelligence alongside their analytical thinking.

Could you share some success stories from your clients?

The most remarkable transformations I've witnessed often come unexpectedly through health improvements. A client with Crohn's disease experienced significant relief through our self-regulation and meditation practices. In our group sessions, I’ve even seen a participant arrive with a walking stick due to hip problems and later rise from the yoga mat pain-free, no longer needing it.

What makes me particularly proud is how clients appreciate my practical, down-to-earth approach to meditation. Many have shared that this accessible method helps them embrace meditation without feeling it needs to be purely spiritual.

In corporate settings, participants consistently return to our online sessions because they experience real benefits from the breathing exercises. They’ve learned firsthand how crucial it is to shift from fight-or-flight mode to a state that fosters creativity and clear thinking.

For readers inspired by this conversation and eager to start their journey, what first steps would you recommend?

Since meditation can have challenging aspects, I recommend finding a trained coach or teacher who can guide you safely and effectively through the process. I also suggest seeking out a local coach or meditation teacher who offers group sessions. There's something uniquely powerful about learning and practicing in a group setting. It not only provides inspiration but also allows you to share experiences and gain different perspectives from fellow participants.

If in-person group sessions aren't available in your area, online live sessions can be a great alternative. While online sessions aren't quite the same as being physically present with a group, they are the next best option.

For those reading this interview, I invite you to take the first step toward positive change by joining one of my transformative group sessions, either in person or online. Experience firsthand how reconnecting your heart and mind can open new possibilities in your life, career, and relationships.
