Rewind to 2021, Nicholas Barnes, was unable to walk unaided. Severely depressed, addicted to Pregabalin and smoking nearly 100 cigarettes a day, he was suffering with agoraphobia.

2007, Nicholas has fallen and landed straight on his feet and injured his spine, ending up in a powered wheelchair having no feeling from the waist down, due to the severe pain he was taking pregabalin, he became addicted to the painkillers.

The side effects of most of his tablets made him overeat and he developed high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure. On top of his health struggles, in 2017, his wife of 16 years Yan was diagnosed with womb cancer, and tragically died three years later in December 2020.

After meeting Nicholas in 2021, the health coach, began teaching him how to build up the strength to move his legs.

She gave him the encouragement he needed to get out of his old habits, like smoking and barely exercising. And she also helped him wean himself off medication.

Nicholas, draw the strength to battle his demons, which wasn’t easy, I was sweating and having nightmares,” he said.

It was a very emotional time for me to address the issue but, I’ve managed it through strong willpower. She gave me the encouragement I needed, and it completely turned my life around,” he said.

Just six months after, Nicholas no longer needed his wheelchair. She patiently taught him little movements, starting from his toes, and eventually building up to being able to move his legs.

She said: “A few months ago he started using crutches around his house, and used his wheelchair when he went out for the day. Then, he began using the crutches around the shop, and then he left the crutches at home.

In the last month, he’s not using anything. He can dance, jump and do push ups. I gave him the support and attention and that made the most difference.

Nicholas, 41, thought he would never walk again until he met this coach that completely turned his life around. I tried to get over all these problems for such a long time and nothing seemed to be working, I can’t believe I don’t need to use my wheelchair anymore, Nicholas took small steps and eventually managed to walk again.

Nicholas recently became a Master Hypnotherapist coach in July 2022, and after he became a pain management practitioner and a mindfulness teacher.

Nicholas, is now a public speaker he talks about mental and physical health and what he overcome to be able to inspire others globally.

Nicholas owns his business at The Wellness Warriors, helping business owners and management tackle their issues with burnout and stress through his program.
