Last month I wrote about how our vibes drive our success and the necessity of working with the invisible forces that run the universe to shape our desired reality. This month is about the invisible force of connection. Connection is the tie that binds everything together. People think they are separate from others, for example, because of the nature of individuality. We think we are separate from nature when we couldn’t be more connected to it; our actions that are producing global warming are the cause of nature struggling to keep her balance and fires unable to burn themselves out naturally. Everything is alive and conscious; all of nature itself hears our every word and feels our every emotion.

You know you are connected because someone near you yawns when you do. You see connection when your pets take on the symptoms of your own illnesses or discomforts. As a universal principle, you see connection when birds form flocks. Connection runs the universe like gasoline fuels an automobile. It keeps it going because it is driven by energy.

Why does this matter?

Because whether we want to be or not, we are our brother’s keeper. On the positive side, people can feel our love across distances, receive blessings from us across distances, and know what we are thinking and suddenly call us. Another example is when a mentor you need or are searching for suddenly shows up in your life. We have more power than we think to attract positive people, situations and events in our lives.

At the same time, we are responsible for how others feel when we are careless with our words and powerful emotions like anger. Thoughts alone, spoken or unspoken, can be “psychic attacks” that other people unknowingly take on when they are in a lower energy or space. Our words and emotions are transmitted through a multitude of energetic fields that bind the universe and everything in it together. No one is isolated; we can’t NOT be a part of one unified energy field. We don’t send psychic attacks on purpose; we just don’t understand that is what we are doing on an energetic level when we are mad or upset. Our thoughts, words, emotions, and actions contribute to the health or harm of the entire universe, which is why our individual ways of showing up in the world matter! When enough of us connect around a positive or negative topic, we collectively change the energy for everyone to either positive or negative.

This is why we all have to stop seeing ourselves as separate from anything on the planet. Even though there is controversy over the Butterfly Effect, what is proven is we impact everything through our thoughts and emotions. If you dwell upon a negative thought towards someone for long, you will likely think unhealthy thoughts that you might just act on. In addition, Buddhist Pema Chodron writes in When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times, “When we hold on to our opinions with aggression, no matter how valid our cause, we are simply adding more aggression to the planet, and violence and pain increase. Cultivating nonaggression is cultivating peace. The way to stop the war is to stop hating the enemy.” I contend this also applies when the enemy is yourself.

How does the notion of connection help us?

  • If we truly understood connection, we would understand just how quickly we can manifest more of what we want in life. It is the belief in separation that slows everything down that we want to experience.

  • We would understand that the spiritual realms are only a thin invisible layer away from us, and would call upon our soul, our angels, and our guides to help us more often.

  • We would be more conscious of how we treat others and how we let others treat us. We can choose to stay connected to positive energies instead of negative ones in the broader connection equation. Even though we are connected to everything, we can play the connection game any way we want, choosing what energy to exhibit and what energy we want to be around.

  • Connection is a source of life and strength if we allow it. We don’t call on others for help as often as we could or should. When a positive energy is strong on a team for example, that connection supports the healthy flow of ideas to accomplish a project or task and you can almost see the ideas bouncing off each other!

Tips for using connection in a positive, healthy way:

  • Spend time in nature listening, as it will speak. What do you hear, see, sense, smell and even taste? You may feel sensations, see pictures, hear sounds, or notice a distinct taste in your mouth.

  • Track your moods for a period of time to determine patterns and identify what takes away your joy. Play with ways to regain your joy whether through gratitude, hugging a pet or person you love, or becoming fully present in the moment to breathe in the abundance that surrounds you. This will profoundly change the way you interact with others and contribute to the connection field we all exist in.

  • Be careful with your thoughts. Because they reside in your psyche, they:

    • Are “psychic” energy (and powerful).

    • Attract like thoughts into your psyche.

    • Enter your body and affect your health.

    • Flow through the universal energy fields to others.

    • Form your “energetic atmosphere” at work and at home, so think positive thoughts and cancel/delete negative ones by saying, “delete delete.”

    • Are powerful enough to kill plants and animals who are very sensitive.
