Brazilian Environmental Social Network Selected As Finalist For 2023 SXSW Pitch

Smart Citizen Software to showcase AMA – Environmental Agents in the Smart Cities, Transportation & Sustainability category.
An essential destination for those who want to know the future trends in the most diverse areas of knowledge and entertainment, SXSW – South by Southwest holds its next edition from March 10th to 19th in Austin, Texas. In 2023 it will gather more than 42 thousand participants representing over 110 countries in almost five thousand conferences, shows, and events.
Smart Citizen, developer of the AMA platform, will showcase its environmental solutions on March 12th. The Brazilian company is a finalist at the SXSW Pitch 2023 in the Smart Cities, Transportation & Sustainability category, alongside competitors from the United States, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.
SXSW Pitch 2023 selected 40 finalists from the 731 companies that applied to present in eight different categories: Artificial Intelligence, Voice & Robotics; Enterprise & Smart Data; Entertainment, Media & Content; Food, Nutrition & Health; Future of Work; Innovative World Technologies; Metaverse & Web3; and Smart Cities, Transportation & Sustainability. Only two of them are Brazilian.
Social Media Technology and Gamification
AMA stands for Agentes do Meio Ambiente – Environmental Agents in Portuguese. During the event, AMA’s CEO, Marcelo Crivano, will present a solution that uses social network technology and gamification to establish local leaders in urban micro-regions. The platform connects and rewards neighbors to collaborate and participate in environmental education programs, urban cleaning, reverse logistics, urban farms, and composting, among other ecological efforts.
Florianópolis was the first Brazilian capital to adopt AMA as part of a public policy action. The municipal administration hires the application service and pays community agents for environmental care services. Currently, over 530 caretakers are working in the city, located on an island in southern Brazil with a population of 574,000 inhabitants.
The unprecedented initiative won the Climate Smart Cities Challenge 2022, promoted by UN-Habitat, and is revolutionizing the urban cleaning service in Brazil, in addition to developing resilient communities based on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
For Crivano, being a finalist at the SXSW Pitch 2023 proves that there were more hits than misses throughout AMA's development process.
