Vasundhra Gupta, Life Coach & Spiritual Writer

What inspired you to create My Spiritual Shenanigans?

Pain was my inspiration! My Spiritual Shenanigans started anonymously as an Instagram account where I would write about the many challenges of a spiritual journey. I was going through adark night of the soul”, and used writing as an outlet to express the intensity of my experience.

Eventually, my words overflowed and stopped fitting in the captions. So I began channeling all the energy to a blog.

Overtime, I’ve seen this space become a powerful resource for people around the world, who, like me, have felt lost, stuck or overwhelmed in life.

And today, I’m grateful that pain is no longer the driver for my work. Through hundreds of hours of transformative coaching and dozens of deep-dive articles topping Google searches, I am fuelled by the joy that comes with witnessing countless people elevate the quality of their life! THIS is what I am here to do and I’m so grateful to finally have that clarity.

And how did you come up with the name, “my spiritual shenanigans”?

So, I honestly didn’t put much thought into it.

At the very beginning of my journey, I was quite closeted about my spiritual interests. So I handpicked who I could share these topics with and started sending emails to some close friends that had shown similar interest. The emails went with the title “spiritual shenanigans: part x”.

Years later, when the time came to register a domain name, I think I was just so excited to get started that I didn’t want to waste time analyzing what the website should be called! I just went with what I had already been using.

However, a few more years later, when I was officially ready to register myself as a business owner, I did reconsider the name. And as you can see, I still went with the original idea!

Can you tell me more about the mission and purpose of your business?

While at first, I was writing almost exclusively about navigating a spiritual awakening, my writing and coaching have evolved with me to speak about a much wider range of topics. Such as:

  • Improving relationships (boundaries, inner child healing, forgiveness, etc.)

  • Self-actualization (stop self-sabotaging, reduce anxiety & stress, build better habits, etc.)

  • Living a life of purpose (authenticity, confidence, higher calling, etc.)

  • Breaking stigma around mental health, the coaching industry, and unconventional spiritual practices such as past life regression & ancestral healing.

And I don’t talk about this as much but I am a Computer Science graduate. So I also provide technical & business support to many of my 1:1 clients. I remove the overwhelm from technology and solopreneurship by walking them through every step of the way and teaching them how to create powerful websites and systems that can lead them to the worldwide impact they’re aspiring for.

It’s been so exciting to be able to blend all my interests in service to the world!

How do you apply all these tools within your own personal and professional life?

I’m truly grateful to have learned a wide range of tools and skills that bridge the gap between traditional therapy and coaching. However, at one point, it became an obsession to learn “one more tool”. I went on autopilot for a while, spending countless hours and endless money escaping from life through learning. It’s a thing - if you’re passionate about self-development, you might know what I am talking about!

So, one of the biggest takeaways of this journey has been learning to slow down and integrate the knowledge I already have. This takeaway ties in with my personal aspiration to become unshakeable. To know myself so well that I am never shaken again.

So, on most days, instead of trying to absorb more content, I will simply sit with myself and play a dual role – I act as my own coach! And when I need someone to hold space for me because what I’m going through is too big to deal with alone, I don’t shy away from leaning on my therapist, other coaches, or my loved ones. This is one of the most important reminders I strive to model to my clients. They are inherently worthy and wise – I am only here as their sidekick, to help them remove all the noise and guide them back to their center.

And then on other days where I don’t have the capacity to be my own coach or call for help, I will take a step back and let myself enjoy playing Assassins Creed on my PS5! I openly share this act of “conscious distraction” with my clients as well. It’s important to tread the path of healing without overwhelming our nervous system. And two, let’s PLAY more! Spirituality isn’t about being more spiritual. Ironically, it’s about being more human.

There are other values I stand for, which I bring into my work. Such as being generous across all my services – free and paid. I don’t believe in holding back! The only thing money can buy is a more intimate and personalized experience.

I would also like to say that I’m a bit of a rebel. I’ve been quite unconventional in the ways I’ve chosen to move through life: quitting a corporate job, creating massive accessibility through my writing and coaching, destigmatizing the “woo-woo” stuff, etc. I’d like to believe that this gives other people the permission to be more authentic and do what makes them happy!
