Becoming a professional Tarot reader is more than a skill, it's a deeply personal journey of intuition, discovery, and connection. For me, it all began with a gift: a deck of Rider Waite Tarot cards on my 18th birthday. What started as fascination quickly grew into a lifelong passion, fueled by curiosity and the desire to decode the mysteries within the cards.

Where it all started

I had always been fascinated by Tarot ever since I can remember. I was given a set of the Rider Waite Tarot Cards back in the 90s for my 18th birthday, and since then I have become obsessed with them.

I did a short course at a community centre to get me started with my tarot reading journey. Each and every week I would shuffle the cards for myself and lay out the selected cards and write down the card placements and a short summary of what i thought the cards were telling me, and at the end of the week I'd go back to the cards and check what I had wrote down and soon figured out the events I was predicting were always on point in the cards.

I knew in my twenties these cards were predicting things in advance but it was our interpretation as the reader that could sometimes be wrong. I started taking a lot of notice on what the cards were trying to tell me when I did get the predictions wrong.

I felt like these cards were speaking to me and I was starting to work out and decode what they were saying. I was hooked and the quest for knowledge was well and truly underway.

Showing off to my friends

Friday nights with my friends at my house having pre-drinks before we went clubbing everyone would shuffle the cards and I would be able to tell people if they would meet someone and what star sign the person would be, this became a bit of a party trick for me, I become good at it and it was a lot of fun watching my predicteds take place.

I would find it hilarious once my friends would confirm the star signs of their newfound friends.

Building trust with the cards

These cards and I formed a deep bond and they became a source of guidance growing up, through the good times and the bad, my cards and I have been through this mystic journey we all call life.

The Rider Waite Tarot cards were like my best friend.

About the tarot cards

The cards were first published in 1909 by Arthur Edward Waite a British Poet, he was a mystic who envisioned the cards as a gateway into Kabbalah, Astrology, Religion and Mysticism.

The artist commissioned to do the paintings was Pamela Coleman Smith, she painted the 78 illustrations that are on each of the cards that make up the Rider Waite Tarot deck. Despite some great reviews the cards never took off and when Pamela died in 1951 she died broken-hearted and penniless.

She received no royalties from the deck and she didn’t even have a next of kin in life when she died or even have a funeral, it's such a sad story that always touched my heart.

But here we are today and fast forward 40 plus years after her death and the Rider Waite tarot cards are the most sought-after and sold tarot deck in the world. I've been reading the cards now for over 30 years, and Pamela's artwork has always had a place in my heart, with every tarot course I teach I honour her and give Pamela the credit she deserves.

Decades of commitment

It's been a long journey for me working with Tarot, and recently in the Spiritual Awards in Australia, I just won the 'Best Tarot Reader' award.

The tarot truly is such an amazing divination tool, one that I'm extremely grateful for.

If you have ever wanted to learn Tarot, I’d be happy to have a chat and give you some information on when the next course date will be.

Tarot is a lifelong passion of mine and there is nothing to be scared of with these cards. I believe anyone can read the Tarot with the right training. I created a three step learning program to simplify the learning aspect so it's not too whelming.
