Emma Liston is best known for her "magical" ability that goes beyond traditional energy healing. As the heart of Being-Magic, she works with both humans and animals, though animals are her true passion. Calling herself an “animal kingdom guardian,” she sees her work as a life purpose, using her unique gifts to bring comfort to those she helps.

At first glance, the title might sound surprising, but dragons are beings interwoven throughout human history and mythology, across nearly every culture on Earth. As our world moves through accelerated change, uncertainty, and waves of energetic unrest, I believe ancient forces are stirring in the collective consciousness to help guide us through. One of these forces is the dragons. I’ve felt a deep connection to them since childhood, and today, I want to share some of what I’ve come to understand about these powerful allies.

What if there’s more to the stories?
As we ease into a subject that may be quite out of the ordinary, I’d like to begin by looking at Chinese astrology, because it includes the dragon amongst real-world animals. Have you ever wondered why a culture so deeply tied to nature and ancient traditions would include a so-called mythical creature amongst real animals? What if this is because they were, and are, in fact, very real?
If you’re drawn to astrology, you might also enjoy exploring a more galactic perspective through a system called the Stellar Nations. These stories are said to not only reveal the history of our Milky Way galaxy, but actually the universal guiding principles of our Earthly life as well. It speaks of our ancient cosmic origins and the primordial energies still alive in our consciousness, one of the most potent being dragon energy.
I also ask you to consider the dinosaurs – their bones being the only remains of these giant creatures that roamed the earth, and that we really can’t be sure of exactly what their outer bodies looked like. I have often wondered, what if those dinosaur bones belong to beings we once called dragons? We don’t know what we don’t know. But with dragons appearing in mythologies and carvings from nearly every corner of the globe, perhaps there’s more truth behind the legends than we’ve been led to believe.
Exploring ancient cultures
For millennia, Indigenous and ancient cultures across the world have revered dragon-like beings, making their resurgence in our collective consciousness today all the more intriguing. Consider Quetzalcoatl, the revered Aztec deity known as the bringer of light and transformation; said to have walked the earth in human form, he was deeply loved by the people he lived among. Some believe he shares a soul lineage with the Sumerian god Enki – a being also associated with wisdom, water, and creation. Quetzalcoatl’s story also echoes that of Jeshua, carrying divine teachings and a frequency of higher consciousness.
Quetzalcoatl is widely known as the 'feathered serpent' – a title that appears again and again in ancient texts and carvings. The resemblance to a dragon is hard to overlook. In dragon lore, there’s even a known species called the Ampithere: a feathered serpent-half bird and half snake-that renews itself in a fiery bath. Sound familiar? It mirrors the phoenix, another powerful symbol of rebirth, and bears striking resemblance to Quetzalcoatl himself.
One of the most powerful and mysterious legends of Quetzalcoatl speaks of his role in the resurrection of humankind. It is said that he journeyed deep into the Earth to retrieve the bones of humanity. But they were fragile and scattered – too difficult to carry whole. So he called upon help to grind them into dust, making them easier to transport back to the surface. Yet, once he returned, he realised something more was needed to bring them back to life. In a profound act of devotion, Quetzalcoatl gave his own blood to the dust. From this sacred offering, the bones reformed, and the human race was reborn.
Artwork and images of dragons
We see dragons everywhere – painted on ancient scrolls, carved into stone temples, flying boldly across national flags. Dragons even appear in religious texts – perhaps most famously in the story of St. George, said to have slain a dragon as a test of faith and valour. How is it that across so many cultures, religions, and eras, dragons keep appearing? What makes this creature so enduring, so deeply embedded in both human and Earth history?
So…who, or what are the dragons really?
To some, dragons are powerful symbols – embodying wisdom, transformation, and elemental power. To others, they are real energetic beings: guardians of the planet’s ley lines, keepers of ancient elemental intelligence, and allies in humanity’s awakening. Consider kundalini energy – the coiled life force at the base of the spine, which rises through the chakras during spiritual awakening. Many believe this energy is dragon energy: potent, ancient, and transformative.
Like us, dragons are energetic beings, but many believe they once walked the Earth in physical form. Long ago, they were our allies, friends, and guides. Until, that is, the fall of human consciousness. It’s said that when human consciousness fell, the dragons went to sleep, retreating into the land itself. Look closely, and you might see their resting forms etched into rock faces, embedded in seabeds, or stretching across mountain ranges. They have always been here, waiting.
Why now, after all this time?
The Earth is shifting. People are awakening to their true power. And dragons often return as allies during times of great transformation. As mentioned earlier, it’s believed that the dragons entered a deep slumber long ago, an ancient agreement between them and humanity. The promise was this: when the time came for our collective return to higher consciousness, that signal would also be the dragons’ call to awaken.
I believe that the time is now.
That’s why so many people are suddenly remembering the dragons – why whispers once spoken only in secret are now becoming part of mainstream conversation. They’re re-emerging because we are. Many are feeling the intensity of what’s happening: the solar flares, erratic weather patterns, the dissolution of old paradigms. More and more people are questioning the nature of reality, consciousness, and what we’ve long accepted as truth. I believe this is dragon energy – rising again, activating, coming fully online.
The slumber is over – for us, and for them.
How can you work with the dragons?
First, keep an open mind, especially if this feels like a stretch for you. Dragons are beings of great wisdom, and they often come to us when we’re ready, not necessarily when we expect them. They might appear in dreams, meditations, or sudden moments of memory or recognition. If this happens, take note. Journaling your impressions can help unlock deeper insight, and the act of writing often strengthens the connection.
Sometimes, dragon energy makes itself known in less obvious ways, like a sudden surge of inner strength or a fire rising within you that feels out of character. You might feel inexplicably bold, empowered, or clear in a way that defies logic. These moments of clarity and activation can be signs the dragons are near, helping you reclaim your power, shift your perspective, or even offer healing.
Dragons also make powerful allies in energy healing work. You can call on them during a session to help clear your energy field of density and stagnant patterns. Elemental dragons are especially potent here – fire dragons can reignite your passion or inspiration, water dragons help with emotional flow and healing, air dragons bring fresh clarity, and earth dragons offer grounding and stability. They are natural transmuters; their fire energy can cleanse and transform simultaneously, bringing balance to your chakras and energetic body.
If you're drawn to support the Earth, dragons are excellent planetary allies. Simply set an intention to assist, call them in, and trust their wisdom. They can help clear heavy energy from specific places, restore flow along ley lines, and even help cleanse your home or sacred space.
And don’t forget the joy. Invite the dragons into your meditations or shamanic journeys and see what unfolds. You might fly on their backs to assist with planetary work, or perhaps you’ll reconnect with your inner child and experience deep joy, peace, and freedom. In these spaces, profound healing often happens without needing to understand the how.
The magic is real…if you believe
I invite you to stay open to the idea that not all support on this Earth plane is visible, just like each of us has a spiritual team guiding us through life, even if we can’t always see them. Perhaps, just perhaps, we each carry a “dragon within” – waiting to awaken, nudging us toward courage, authenticity, and a deeper connection with the Earth and our own inner magic.
Who’s to say the beings we've been told are only myth aren’t real? In truth, we have no idea what other life exists in this vast universe, or even in other dimensions. Our physical eyes perceive less than 1% of the electromagnetic spectrum, which means there’s far more beyond what we can see. But we can feel them. So when your mind says, “This can’t be real,” try tuning into your heart instead. You might be surprised by what you sense, because magic is everywhere, if you’re willing to believe it and open yourself to it.
