A Radical Vision for a Debt-Free World – Exclusive Interview with David Keith Greenaway
David Greenaway is a mind shaped by a life of financial hardship, working in a society full of debt. He has a keen interest in psychology and the effects of recreational drugs on the brain. He has ideas that might challenge society in such a way as to inspire, rather than force, it to change. He is also an author of Aliengg7.Co.Uk, The First Chapters: A Philosopher's Dream 114, available here. He also has a website.
In this interview, David discusses options and elements of his radical new financial strategy, which he is suggesting to Mother Earth. It is a financial strategy that would wipe out poverty and starvation, financial crime and corruption, and debt.
David Keith Greenaway, CEO & Messenger
What inspired you to develop a new financial system, and what would you most like people to understand about your vision?
I have lived a life with lack, as have a lot of people. I have had most of what I needed, but the world can offer so much more. Also, the lack of funding holds back so many promising projects. Hence the new idea!
How did your early experiences with financial difficulties shape the way you think about money and economic security?
Well, as a child, I was looked after, as are many children in developed societies, so I was without financial worry and happy. My financial difficulties have come further on in life, and I have seen with my own eyes the debt my parents and the governments of the world have ended up in.
Your proposal suggests providing £800 million to every individual. How did you arrive at that figure?
I actually started at £80 million in my musings, but the idea in my head was for the sum we received to be more than we could spend in a lifetime. So, I revised it to £800 million, thinking it would be really difficult to spend all that in a lifetime.
What do you see as the biggest weaknesses in today’s financial system that your proposed approach would address?
Modern capitalism is a system where a government cannot afford to do what it needs to do with its gross domestic product (GDP), so it borrows. Then, the following year, it again cannot do what it wants with its GDP, so it borrows more. However, it already has interest and repayments to provide for from its GDP as well, so the amount of GDP available is slowly being whittled away. Do I need to add any more?
Why do you believe greater financial security could help reduce conflict and create a more peaceful society?
It won’t necessarily be financial stability that brings people together in peace, but a mutual respect that we all need to develop from the grassroots up. However, if the system were adopted, I would want part of the covenant to be a commitment to also not create weapons of war.
How would your proposed global banking system work differently from the financial institutions we have today?
The banks would charge a small fee to keep your money because they wouldn’t be able to function otherwise. The banks would all operate using the Central Number. You would understand what I mean if you read my article, “Why Everyone Needs Money and to Stop the Fighting.”
What would need to happen to prevent inflation and ensure that essential goods and services remain available under your system?
This would be referred to the economic schools of Earth to come up with a mathematical model. However, my suggestion is to control the pricing structure if we have a basic sum ourselves. This would allay the greed caused by the present system. The new entrepreneurs’ high would come from providing for society and becoming popular by selling many items of what they produce.
What has kept you committed to sharing your financial vision since developing the idea in 2019?
The thing that keeps me going is that I can see a collapse in the future if something new doesn’t happen. I also have a family of my own, so I care about them. I’m also the kind of person who cares for others. I would hate to see the world go through a systematic collapse.
What is the first change you would like government or financial institutions to consider to move forward with the future you envision?
The first thing I’d love to see, and I’m sure I’m not alone, would be a declaration of unity and mutual respect for our differences and different cultures by all governments of this beautiful planet. A promise from all world leaders to abandon war and all similar thinking. This would clear the way for a creative society. Well, I hope I have sparked your imagination.
