Feng Shui is an ancient practice, rooted in over a thousand years of tradition, designed to bring balance, harmony, and flow into your space, and by extension, your life. While often associated with wealth or luck, it goes far beyond that. When used correctly, Feng Shui can improve relationships, elevate abundance, and create a sense of peace in your home that supports your goals and dreams.

Unfortunately, it’s still widely misunderstood. Many think it’s about painting walls red or filling your home with lucky charms like money frogs or golden cats. But that’s not the full picture. True Feng Shui is both simpler and far more profound than that.
Every home has its own unique energy blueprint. The layout, direction, year of construction, and even changes made through renovations or tenant turnover all influence how energy (Chi) flows through your space. That energy can either work with you, attracting prosperity, love, and vitality, or against you, causing tension, financial drains, and stagnation.
The layout of your home can also reflect specific areas of your life. Using the Bagua map, you can identify zones linked to love, money, health, reputation, spirituality, and more. To find these, overlay a 3x3 grid (like a Sudoku puzzle) across your home’s floor plan. Stand in the centre of your home with your phone’s compass and mark the direction of north. Then use that as a guide to map out the remaining directions across the grid.
And here's the thing: if something in your life isn’t working, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It may simply mean your home is not supporting you the way it should.
You don’t have to book a full consultation to get started. Here are 20 simple but powerful changes you can make today to boost the flow of good Chi and invite more abundance, peace, and balance into your home.
1. Open your front door daily
Your front door is known as the "mouth of Chi" – it's how energy enters your home. Even if you use a side or back door more often, make sure your front door gets opened every day for at least 10 minutes. In colder climates, just opening and closing it a few times is enough to activate energy flow.
2. Keep your front door in good repair
If your door squeaks, sticks, or doesn’t open all the way, it disrupts energy flow. Clear out anything stored behind it and fix hinges or alignment issues. Your front door should open freely and fully, welcoming in opportunity and ease.
3. Tidy up your shoes
Shoes carry the energy of where you’ve been. Leaving them scattered or piled in a basket at the entrance allows all that outside energy to linger. Store them in a closed cabinet if possible to keep the entry clear and energetically clean.
4. Make your home easy to find
Can visitors or delivery drivers easily see your house number? If not, it’s time to update it. A clear house number acts like a beacon, helping abundance and opportunity find their way to you.
5. Create a welcoming entryway
Add a welcome mat, a tidy plant (like a Jade plant, which symbolises wealth), and ensure the space feels inviting. A clean, beautiful entry sets the tone for the energy that flows into your home.
6. Be mindful with mirrors
Mirrors near the front door can bounce energy right back out. If you can see your reflection from the front door, reposition the mirror or cover it. Also, check what your mirrors reflect – a trash bin, for example, can double unwanted clutter energy.
7. Address stairs that face the front door
If your front door opens directly to a staircase, energy may rush upstairs too quickly. Place a round rug at the bottom of the stairs to help disperse and anchor the energy throughout your home.
8. Slow energy from front to back
Can you see your back door from your front door? If so, energy may be escaping too quickly. Use a plant, table, sheer curtain, or opaque window film to create a visual barrier and slow the flow of Chi.
9. Honour your kitchen
The kitchen is your abundance hub. Keep your cooktop clean and clutter-free. Consider placing a mirror behind the stovetop – it symbolically doubles the food and enhances abundance while also improving safety by reflecting what’s behind you.
10. Add a bowl of oranges
Oranges are associated with gold and prosperity. Place a bowl of fresh oranges on your kitchen counter to attract wealth. Eat and replace them as needed to keep the energy fresh.
11. Keep red in check
The kitchen is already a fire-heavy space. Too much red can tip it into imbalance. If your stovetop and sink are directly aligned, add a green towel between them to harmonise fire and water elements.
12. Clear your fridge of magnets
If you’re constantly opening your fridge or snacking without cause, take a look at the magnets on your fridge. These little items may be pulling your attention and scattering focus. Remove unnecessary magnets to create clarity.
13. Declutter with purpose
Clutter blocks energy. Let go of anything you no longer use, love, or need. Whether it’s a drawer, wardrobe, or that random pile in the hallway, clearing space makes room for something better to enter.
14. Keep under your bed clear
Your bed should rest on clean, calm energy. If you store things underneath, stick to soft, neutral items like extra linen. Avoid documents, shoes, or emotionally charged items – they disturb your rest and create subconscious unrest.
15. Curate bedroom imagery
Your bedroom should reflect you and your partner (or desired relationship). Remove images of children or family from this space. Instead, use art or photos that evoke love, intimacy, and connection.
16. Use pairs for love and balance
Balance and equality in relationships starts with your space. Use pairs: two lamps, two pillows, two matching bedside tables. Avoid single or triple items – one invites loneliness, three can invite third-party energy.
17. Remove remnants of old relationships
Still holding on to items from a past relationship? That energy lingers. Whether it’s a wedding dress from a divorce or shared furniture, let it go to invite new, aligned love in.
18. Minimise blue in bathrooms
Bathrooms are water-heavy, and adding more water element (blue) can symbolically drain wealth. Instead, balance with earth tones like beige, terracotta, shells, or sandy hues.
19. Unblock stagnant life areas
If a part of your life feels stuck, like job hunting or calling in new friends, check the corresponding area in your home. Is it cluttered, blocked, or neglected? Clean it, clear it, and watch life shift.
20. Create harmony with family photos
Display family photos in the East, which governs family and health. But avoid placing them above fireplaces, as the fire energy can ignite tension or conflict among loved ones.
Your home should feel like a hug, warm, supportive, and aligned.
These twenty Feng Shui tips are just the beginning. Try them, feel into the changes, and watch as the energy in your home and life starts to shift in the most beautiful ways. When your space supports you, the rest flows with ease.
