As we begin the new year many people set goals for self-improvement. They make plans to be better than the year before by wanting to improve their health, change careers, find love, increase their wealth or work on their spirituality. Whatever the desire, there are some habits that one must develop and implement so that one can achieve the success they seek.  This is done by developing discipline. Highly disciplined individuals possess a unique set of habits that propel them towards their goals and aspirations. Let’s take a look into several success habits that can define your path to greatness.

`The first one is making a commitment. You must be ready and willing to commit to your goals. Create a written contract with yourself on a piece of paper. You may want to type up this contract with yourself just as you would with a client or customer. Type up the goals and you can title it; “Letter of Commitment”. This commitment contract should have the date addressed to yourself and include the goals you wish to achieve in addition to your level of commitment. You should be “All In”! You should remain committed for the entire year! This letter is a way to hold yourself accountable, so place it somewhere where you can see it daily as a reminder.

The second one is goal setting. You must first have a goal. A goal that is clear, realistic and achievable with a strategic plan in place along with a specific time frame for execution can prove to be rewarding. SMART goals are specific, measurable, realistic and timely. When creating your goals remember the acronym to keep you on point and focused.

The third is timing. Timing is everything! This is in connection with goal setting. Be sure to set a time frame for the outcome you desire, so how you spend your time matters. Implement time management skills by prioritizing tasks. Dedicate time to the most important task first and set a deadline for completion. Time management helps you not only manage your time efficiently but it helps you to become disciplined in handling matters accordingly.

This leads to the next habit, the habit of consistency. Stick to routines and stay committed to the goal. Do what needs to be done even if you don’t want to do it. There will be times when you encounter difficult tasks or may have an obstacle that may try to hinder you from reaching your goal, but you must keep going! Be committed no matter what!

Habit number five is maintaining self-control. Having self-control can help you to resist temptations for example overeating, impulsive shopping or making decisions based on emotions or desperation. Remind yourself of the positive results by maintaining self-control, more importantly remember your why!

Healthy Lifestyle is habit number six. Health is wealth! Many people are making health their priority as they enter the new year. Some want to lose weight, quit smoking or simply want to be in good health. Self-care is a necessity that not only entails maintaining a balanced diet and exercise, but it includes setting boundaries and honoring yourself. Implementing Stress management techniques in addition to having supportive networks and good communication skills is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Moreover, having a spiritual connection is the icing on the cake to optimizing your well-being and becoming disciplined. A healthy lifestyle requires a holistic approach to the whole person.

Habit number seven is organization. Keeping things organized helps clear the clutter as well as make things more easily accessible which can save you time. make you more efficient and increase productivity.

Continuously learning is the eighth habit. Successful people are always learning for personal growth and development. They never stop learning. Be open to new ideas as this can provide you with new insights and a new way of being.

The ninth habit is resilience. How you handle setbacks can either make you or break you. Use setbacks and challenges as learning opportunities and handle them with grace. Life happens, so all you can do is go with the flow. Your setback is your preparation for your come-up!

Habit number ten - Prioritize! Set tasks by order of importance. Which tasks require the most attention? By tackling the most difficult tasks first, it will make the rest of your task easier and more manageable.

The final habit is accountability. Take Accountability for your actions. Own up to your mess and take responsibility for your actions as well as your choices. Don’t play the blame game. Whatever goal you did not achieve is no one’s fault but your own. Ask yourself how committed we’re you to achieving the goal. Be true to yourself.

If you implement these daily habits for a consistent period of 30 to 90 days, you will see significant improvement in your life. The goal is to keep going and don’t quit. You only fail when you choose to give up. Remember, life happens so give yourself some grace and expect the unexpected, but keep pushing forward!
