Sandy Shobha Maeck
President of S.H.E. West Indian & Empower You
Shobha (Sandy) Maeck is an author, Certified Life & Health Coach, Certified Mental Health Practitioner, speaker, facilitator, mentor, community advocate, and Certified Leader in Condominium Management. She is passionate about helping people find their voice, recognize their strength, and understand that while the past may shape their story, it does not have to define their future.
Sandy’s work is deeply connected to her own lived experience. Entering an arranged marriage at eighteen, becoming a mother at a young age, surviving domestic and sexual violence, and later rebuilding her life as a single mother of four gave her an intimate understanding of resilience, identity, courage, and what it means to begin again. Rather than allowing those experiences to define the rest of her life, she transformed pain into purpose and eventually used her story to create conversations that could help others feel less alone.
Writing became an important part of that transformation. Sandy is the author of three books: The Unwanted Wife, a bestseller; The Ungracious Daughter; and Unhitched: A Survivor Guide to Divorce, also a bestseller. Through her writing, she explores relationships, adversity, survival, self-discovery, healing, and the process of reclaiming one’s identity and voice.
Her belief in the healing power of words extends into her work as a facilitator. Sandy develops and delivers workshops and programs including Healing Through Writing, Voices of Strength: Healing After Gender-Based Violence, Prioritizing Mental Health in the Workplace, H.O.L.D.™ – Holding Space Without Holding the Pain™, It’s Okay Not to Be Okay, and Write Wildly to Wellness.
Through writing, guided reflection, storytelling, coaching, and lived experience, she creates spaces for meaningful conversations about gender-based violence, domestic abuse, trauma, mental and emotional well-being, boundaries, resilience, and personal growth.
Sandy is the Founder and President of S.H.E. West Indian — Strength, Healing & Empowerment, a community organization dedicated to creating culturally connected spaces and opportunities for women, youth, and families. Through mental health awareness, education, financial literacy, mentorship, leadership development, cultural programming, workshops, and community engagement, S.H.E. West Indian seeks to strengthen individuals while building connections across generations and communities.
She is also the Founder and CEO of Empower You, through which she continues her work in coaching, personal development, writing, and empowerment.
Culture and creativity are equally important parts of Sandy’s life and leadership. She is the Founder, Owner, and Director of STCC Dance Academy, where dance provides an opportunity to celebrate culture, build confidence, connect generations, and bring communities together.
Sandy also looks for creative ways to bring conversations about mental health into spaces where they may not traditionally occur. She created Unmasking Beauty: A Bollywood Fashion Show for Mental Health — Celebrating Culture, Confidence & the Courage to Be Seen. Through fashion, movement, culture, and storytelling, the presentation brings visibility to silent struggles such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, loneliness, self-doubt, and burnout while shifting the narrative toward hope, healing, resilience, confidence, support, and self-love.
Her leadership experience extends beyond coaching and advocacy. Sandy has built a professional career in condominium management, developing extensive experience in leadership, governance, communication, operations, conflict resolution, and working with diverse communities. Her professional and community leadership experiences have strengthened her belief that effective leadership begins with listening, empathy, accountability, and creating environments where people feel respected and heard.
Sandy’s contributions to community, mental health advocacy, leadership, and empowerment have been recognized through numerous honours, awards, and acknowledgements. In 2026, she received the MTM Impact Award, recognizing her commitment to creating meaningful change within the community. She has also received recognition through MTM in 2024, as well as recognition from the City of Pickering, Town of Markham and the Town of Ajax for her volunteerism, community leadership, and contributions.
Sandy has also received two certificates of recognition from Ontario Premier Doug Ford for women’s leadership and her contributions to building dynamic and prosperous communities. In addition, she has been recognized for her work in mental health facilitation in Ontario, reflecting her continued commitment to mental and emotional well-being, advocacy, and creating spaces where important conversations can take place.
While Sandy is grateful for every honour she has received, she believes the true measure of her work is found in the lives she touches, the conversations she helps create, and the people who feel empowered to recognize their own strength, voice, and possibilities.
Today, Sandy brings together the many parts of her journey—author, coach, mental health practitioner, community leader, cultural advocate, dance academy director, professional manager, mother, survivor, and mentor—to encourage others to see possibility beyond their circumstances.
At the heart of her work is a message she carries across her writing, workshops, speaking, coaching, and community initiatives: your story does not end with what happened to you. Healing does not mean erasing the past. It can mean understanding it, finding your voice, recognizing your worth, and choosing how you want the next chapter to be written.
For Sandy, that is what it means to transform pain into purpose, silence into conversation, and lived experience into meaningful change.
