Michiko Tomioka
Registered Dietitian & Nutritionist
Michiko Tomioka is a Japanese-born nutritionist, educator, and tea practitioner devoted to sharing the wisdom, beauty, and everyday joy of authentic plant-based Japanese meals and mindful living. She grew up in Nara, Japan, where food, family, and care were deeply connected in daily life. From the age of three, she found joy in cooking and helping care for the people around her, experiences that shaped her lifelong relationship with food as nourishment, comfort, and connection.
After moving to the United States and working as a mother in corporate life, Michiko began to see how the modern Westernized food system was affecting people’s health, contributing to obesity, chronic disease, stress, and emotional imbalance. She noticed that many people, including close friends and coworkers, had very little basic food education or confidence in cooking and making everyday food choices. At the same time, she experienced her own health struggles after stepping away from the traditional Japanese way of living she had grown up with.
These personal experiences became the heart of her mission. Wanting to help others reconnect with simple, nourishing food and a more mindful way of living, Michiko choseto pursue the path of becoming a registered dietitian and functional nutritionist.
Her message is simple and honest: everyday food choices matter. A breakfast of bacon, a cream cheese bagel, and diet soda, followed by coffee with artificial sweetener and cookies for lunch and fast food fordinner, doesnot support the body, mind, or spirit. Through her writing, Michiko gently encourages people to return to real food, home cooking, and small daily practices that support long-term well-being.
