Matthew B. Govier, LPC, is a licensed professional counselor, clinical supervisor, doctoral researcher, and innovator working at the intersection of psychology, neuroscience, the ethical use of AI, and psychedelic-assisted therapy. His work focuses on integrating emerging technologies with evidence-based therapeutic practices to enhance healing, learning, and clinician development, without compromising ethics or the human therapeutic relationship.
Matthew brings over a decade of clinical and supervisory experience specializing in addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, and complex psychological presentations. His integrative, neuroscience-informed approach draws from cognitive-behavioral therapies, mindfulness-based practices, trauma-responsiveness, and existential frameworks. He is also formally trained in MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, with a strong emphasis on ethical applications, preparation, and integration.
Matthew is the founder of Supervision4Counselors.com, a supervision and professional development platform supporting counselors in training and licensed clinicians. The platform pioneers the ethical use of AI-assisted supervision to enhance reflective practice, case conceptualization, and inform clinical decision-making, while preserving clinician accountability and professional judgment.
Currently pursuing a PhD in General Psychology with an emphasis in Technology and Learning, Matthew’s research explores how the ethical deployment of artificial intelligence can support therapist development and improve real-world clinical outcomes. He is the author of Elevate: A Holistic Guide to Self-Enhancement and How to Heal Addictions and Mental Health Illnesses from Your Life, and is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Society for Neuroscience.
