Marisa Conway is a registered nurse, certified lifestyle medicine coach, author of Shattered Bonds, Resilient Heart, founder of Presence & Persistence Life Coaching, and Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine. Her work explores one of the most overlooked consequences of prolonged adversity: the gradual disruption—and eventual restoration—of human identity.

For more than a decade, Marisa worked in emergency medicine, caring for individuals during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Those experiences shaped her conviction that human beings are rarely understood through their worst day, strongest emotion, or most difficult circumstance. Instead, they must be viewed within the broader context of their lives, experiences, and environments.

Following a series of profound personal and professional adversities—including parental alienation, reputational challenges, and prolonged conflict—Marisa became increasingly interested in what she has come to believe is one of the most overlooked consequences of chronic stress: identity disruption. Drawing upon both her clinical observations and lived experience, she developed a conceptual framework she calls The Misinterpretation Loop, describing how narratives gradually replace context, labels begin overshadowing complexity, and over time those stories can reshape both public perception and personal identity.

Rather than asking, "What's wrong with this person?" Marisa encourages readers to ask a different question: "What happened, and what context might we still be missing?"
Her work challenges readers to reconsider how society evaluates human behavior, advocating for curiosity before certainty, context before conclusion, and compassion before categorization. Through her writing, coaching, and speaking, Marisa explores resilience not as the absence of hardship, but as the ability to remain anchored in one's values and identity despite extraordinary adversity.

Her philosophy is rooted in a simple but deeply held conviction:
"Context is often sacrificed for simplicity. We mistake conclusions for understanding, labels for insight, and certainty for wisdom. I've come to believe that certainty is often the enemy of compassion. The moment we become convinced we've completely figured someone out, we stop asking questions."

As an Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine, Marisa writes at the intersection of psychology, resilience, healthcare, human behavior, and personal transformation. Her mission is to encourage readers to think more deeply about themselves and others while offering thoughtful, practical insight for navigating life's most difficult chapters with clarity, dignity, and hope. Ultimately, she hopes her work reminds readers that while adversity may shape a life, it should never be mistaken for the entirety of the person living it.
