TheTeenDoc
Dr. Adekemi Oguntala, or Dr. O, is a teen physician who received her undergraduate education at UC Berkeley. She earned her medical degree from what is now Drexel University and completed her pediatric residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, both located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She also completed her adolescent medicine fellowship at Stanford University.
Dr. O worked under a professional pioneer at Oakland Children’s Hospital in their teen clinic before running the teen clinic at a busy HMO for over 15 years in Daly City. She now sees clients in her private practice, helping teens and parents communicate and connect emotionally while assisting everyone she works with in self-actualization.
Her focus is on raising the emotional intelligence of teens, with a sub-focus on improving their sense of self-worth, lovability, and personal value. In the end, clients are able to tell their personal stories with self-awareness instead of shame.
Dr. O also makes speaking appearances at schools, conferences, and educates parents, teachers, and clinicians on enriching their awareness and knowledge of teens. She has been called "an energetic speaker," "dynamic," and "easy to talk to" by teens and parents alike. It is her mission to ensure teens know she is dedicated to being their advocate. She has had plenty of practice raising her own two teens and realizes that true advocacy for a teen heals the entire family, as teens are having normal reactions to misunderstood parenting.
