I was recently asked in an interview, "After 37 years in the fitness industry, is there one piece of advice you would give?" My response was almost knee-jerk: "Your most profound changes occur in the spaces between visible progress."

We spend so much time in our fitness and wellness journeys focusing on calories, steps per day, and a number on the scale that we miss the real magic happening. We miss the small, seemingly insignificant milestones that must be celebrated and tracked. These are the changes that yield transformation.

These small, often invisible changes are the building blocks of lasting transformation. However, recognizing and valuing these subtle shifts requires more than keen observation. It demands something deeper, something more challenging.

Faith in our desires, dreams, and goals requires an audacious (some might say delusional) belief. That against all odds, despite what happened before, this time will be different. This, my friend, is where the journey gets uncomfortable but not unattainable.

To navigate this journey of invisible progress, we need to shift our mindset and take actionable steps. Let's explore both:

Mindset shifts

  1. Redefine progress beyond just physical appearance. Recognize that progress includes mental resilience, energy levels, and daily habits.

  2. Challenge self-limiting narratives and beliefs. Question your narrative about what you can or cannot achieve.

  3. Embrace the power of consistency. Acknowledge that showing up regularly, even when results aren't immediately visible, is a form of progress.

Immediate actions

  1. Begin each day with a positive affirmation reinforcing your progress, such as "I am the progress others may not see."

  2. Implement one minor lifestyle adjustment each week, such as drinking more water or taking a short walk during lunch.

  3. Start noticing and celebrating small, often overlooked changes in your daily life and routines. If your mini goal is to walk each day this week, your celebration may be treating yourself to a relaxing bath or your favorite cup of tea at the end of the week.

Remember, the most profound changes often occur in the quiet moments between visible milestones. By shifting our focus to recognize and celebrate these invisible victories, we enrich our fitness journey and cultivate a more balanced, sustainable approach to personal growth.

This shift in perspective doesn't just transform your fitness journey—it ripples through every aspect of your life, especially for those of us who are women in service-driven businesses and careers. As we navigate the complexities of our jobs, family responsibilities, and personal growth, it's easy to overlook the subtle yet significant progress we're making. From increased confidence in professional settings to more energy for individual pursuits, acknowledging your invisible progress can lead to profound empowerment and fulfillment across all areas of your life.

Progress is a process, and it's not cliché to say 'trust the process.' Give yourself permission to slow down and notice the subtle changes happening within and around you. These small shifts are the building blocks of your transformation.
