What makes my life’s work different is that I’ve intentionally stripped away unnecessary hierarchy and middle layers in my private practice. In their place, I’ve tried to build something simpler, more human, and more creative, grounded in a deep trust in the people I work alongside at MHASO.

We still operate within clear ethical and professional boundaries, but we don’t let structure become rigidity. Instead, we stay open, open to pivoting, adapting, and evolving how we work so we can actually meet the needs in front of us. That might be the needs of our community, the organizations we collaborate with, or the individuals and families who reach out for support.

At the core of this approach is a belief in flexibility without losing integrity. I don’t see “clinical practice” as something fixed or separate from the real world. I see it as part of a much larger life’s work, one that includes how we show up in community, how we respond to need, and how willing we are to rethink systems that no longer serve people well.

I also don’t see value in keeping for-profit work, not-for-profit service, and volunteer contributions in separate boxes. In my experience, they can coexist in the same ecosystem. Each one can strengthen the other when the intention is aligned and the focus stays on service, dignity, and impact rather than structure for its own sake.

Ultimately, this is not just about how I practice clinically. It’s about how I choose to engage with the world. My life’s work is about creating conditions where people can thrive, and building systems that are flexible enough, human enough, and honest enough to actually support that.
