Nicola Jones

Founder

Nicola Jones is a multimedia artist, writer, and award-winning creative entrepreneur based on the Isle of Bute, Scotland. Her work blends art, storytelling, heritage, and community to create joyful, meaningful connections through place-based projects and bold, imaginative brands.

With a BSc in Multimedia from Glasgow Caledonian University and two years of art school training in Weymouth, Nicola has spent over two decades using her skills to uplift people and places through creativity. She is the founder of Happy Tartan®, a vibrant designer brand that celebrates all things fun and tartan, and the creator of the Happy Tartan Girls, a playful group of characters who explore Scottish identity through colourful adventures. Nicola is also the creator of Cartoon Comic Bute, an illustrated series that brings the island’s stories, history, and landmarks to life for all ages.

A passionate female entrepreneur, Nicola has launched multiple community-led initiatives and creative campaigns. She has served as a Voluntary Arts Ambassador, Community Engagement Officer for the Argyll & Isles Tourism Cooperative, and as a trustee on the Rothesay Pavilion redevelopment project.

Nicola’s work has been recognised for its innovation, community impact, and creative leadership. She was recently named one of the Top 10 Female Entrepreneurs to Watch in 2025 for her contributions to culture, design, and grassroots enterprise.

From writing and illustration to cultural strategy and event creation, Nicola continues to build platforms that honour Scottish culture, empower communities, and inspire imagination through creativity.
