
Natalie Thomas
Psychotherapist, Professor & Writer
Natalie Thomas is a Registered Psychotherapist, Adjunct Professor and researcher/writer. She holds a PhD in Philosophy and specialized in the study of animal minds and ethics. publishing two books and articles in the area before becoming a therapist. She has taught at Universities and Colleges for over 20 years, and has presented at conferences and given workshops and public lectures on a variety of topics. Her love of learning has led to her into a second PhD that focuses on Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy so that she can deepen her expertise and her research.
Passionate about nature, animals and healing, she has shifted into climate psychology where she currently volunteers on the Executive, Research and Curriculum Committees in the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America. She is the Primary Investigator for the Canadian Climate Study, which is a longitudinal study that examines the experiences of Canadians across the country as their climate changes.
A level 3 trained Internal Family Systems therapist, she has created a model of climate aware therapy based on IFS and is writing a book to be published with Norton Professional Books, due out in 2027./28. Natalie also created an IFS-Informed climate cafe model, and runs them monthly online to support people whose mental health is impacted by the distress caused by climate change and global warming.
Natalie has a small private practice that focuses on providing care to clients with highly trained and compassionate therapists. She is trained to work with trauma and complex trauma using IFS, EMDR and Deep Brain Reorienting. Her experience and training in mindfulness meditation and compassion based practices is fundamental to her own internal resiliency and she shares this through running groups in Compassion Based Resilience Training and small workshops and retreats.
Natalie believes in living, loving and creating fiercely, and expresses this through her visual art practice and creative writing. Her vision is to inspire others to find their own ways to flourish even during difficult times.
