He is the Founder and President of Community First, a training and advocacy organization that equips families, activists, and organizations with the tools to assert power over the policies and practices that affect their lives. Under Kevin's leadership, Community First has reached over 11,000 individuals across 143 organizations, offering virtual and in-person trainings on civic engagement, trauma-informed care, youth development, fatherhood, and the integration of artificial intelligence into social justice strategy. Through curriculum development, strategic planning, and organizational training, Community First builds the infrastructure for communities to dream, design, and deliver their own futures.
Prior to founding Community First, Kevin served as Deputy Director for Programs and Strategy for the Southern Poverty Law Center's Learning for Justice Division, where he developed community engagement strategies to promote equity in education for Black and Brown students. Kevin also held multiple national leadership roles with the NAACP, including National Training Director, where he designed and led training for more than 63,000 activists across 1,200 branches. He previously served as the NAACP's Southeast and Midwest Regional Field Director, as well as Interim National Field Director, helping steer campaigns that addressed voter suppression, racial profiling, and systemic inequities.
In addition to his civil rights and community-building work, Kevin is a life member and longtime volunteer with American Mensa, a high IQ society reserved for individuals scoring in the 98th percentile or higher on standardized intelligence tests. He served five terms as President of the Wichita, Kansas Chapter, two terms as Regional Director for seven Midwestern states, and as a member of the National Board of Directors. While on Mensa's National Marketing Committee, Kevin worked to challenge prevailing stereotypes about race and intelligence, asserting a radical redefinition of brilliance rooted in resilience, culture, and lived experience.
Described by the late Dr. Ron Walters as "one of the finest of minds and the worthiest of efforts to continue the struggle for justice in ways that are consistent with the challenges, the demands, and the tools of this century," Kevin continues to bridge legacy movements with emerging tools and ideas. He has spoken nationally and internationally on issues of child welfare, leadership, and advocacy – including at the International Kempe Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect, the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law in Melbourne, Australia, and the United States Senate Leadership Forum.
Kevin's work is animated by a deep belief: that radical inclusion, visionary strategy, and community-rooted love are not only our tools for survival – they are the blueprint for liberation.
