Jemma Gunningham
Founder, The Yacht Interior Academy
Is a former superyacht crew member with over a decade of experience working in one of the world’s most demanding and high-pressure luxury industries. Having built her career on board, she experienced firsthand the realities behind the polished image... the long hours, high expectations, and the level of discipline required to succeed in close-quarters, high-performance environments.
Throughout her time in yachting, she developed a deep understanding of what truly sets successful crew apart. It’s not just technical skills or qualifications—it’s mindset, resilience, adaptability, and the ability to consistently perform under pressure.
After leaving life at sea, she founded The Yacht Interior Academy to bridge the gap between what aspiring crew are taught and what the industry actually demands. Her approach goes beyond traditional training, focusing on preparing individuals mentally, emotionally, and professionally so they can not only enter the industry, but build sustainable and successful careers within it.
Through her work, she has supported aspiring crew from all over the world in navigating the complexities of breaking into yachting with clarity and confidence. She is known for her honest, no-nonsense approach and her ability to challenge the unrealistic expectations often associated with the industry.
As an Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine, she shares real, unfiltered insights into life on board - covering everything from career entry and progression to the personal growth that comes with working in such a unique environment.
Her mission is simple: to prepare people for the reality of yachting, not just the idea of it.
