Deniz Oktay
Creative Arts and Dance Psychotherapist
Deniz Oktay is the founder of Williamsburg Body Mind Therapy in Brooklyn, NY, where they specialize in helping individuals navigate trauma recovery. Holding a Master’s in Dance Therapy from Pratt Institute, and a License in Creative Arts Therapy, Deniz integrates dance/movement therapy, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, and nervous system-focused techniques to offer a holistic approach to healing. With a professional career in modern dance, Deniz has always been deeply attuned to the ways in which the body holds and expresses emotion. Growing up, she turned to movement, dance, and play as a way to cope with emotional overwhelm, life transitions, and experiences of grief and loss. This early connection to the therapeutic power of movement would shape Deniz's future path, blending the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of healing. In their work today, Deniz creates a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their experiences and reclaim a sense of agency in their lives. She believes that healing is an embodied process, one that requires a deep connection to both the body and the mind. With trauma-sensitive practices, she works with individuals to release stored tension, regulate the nervous system, and cultivate resilience in the face of life’s challenges.Deniz is deeply committed to expanding her expertise and has studied Neuroenergetic Therapy (NET) with Roger Gilchrest and Autonomics with Gabriel Kram at Restorative Practices. These ongoing areas of study fuel her passion for supporting clients in overcoming the effects of trauma and cultivating long-lasting emotional resilience.Whether working through past wounds or navigating life’s ongoing transitions, Deniz fosters deep self-discovery, personal empowerment, and emotional resilience in all her clients. Through her writing, therapy practice, and professional career, Deniz is passionate about helping others reconnect with their body and mind to heal, grow, and thrive.
