Charlene Patron-Drigo
RPC-C, Founder of Refinement Room
Charlene Patron-Drigo is a registered professional counselor-candidate, researcher, and founder of Refinement Room, an organization dedicated to supporting immigrants and racialized communities in Hamilton through counseling, coaching, and consultation. With a deep commitment to culturally responsive care, Charlene specializes in migratory grief and cultural bereavement, exploring how the loss of familiar environments, traditions, and identities impacts emotional well-being and social integration.
Her work is grounded in a strengths-based approach, recognizing the resilience of newcomers while addressing the emotional distress, identity challenges, and isolation they often experience. Through individual counseling, group facilitation, and community-based initiatives, she helps individuals navigate the complexities of cultural transitions, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
Charlene’s research delves into the psychological and social effects of migration, examining how unprocessed grief can amplify stress and hinder integration. She is particularly focused on creating interventions that bridge the gap between emotional healing and community participation. Her programs, Amplifying Cultural Resonance and The Eldest Daughter Support Group, offer a structured space for immigrants to process their experiences, build connections, and engage with their new environment in meaningful ways.
Beyond direct services, Charlene provides consultation and training on cultural sensitivity, helping organizations develop inclusive practices that better serve diverse populations. She envisions expanding her work globally, advocating for more nuanced approaches to migration-related mental health.
With a passion for research, advocacy, and direct client support, Charlene is committed to reshaping how communities understand and address the emotional realities of migration.
