Benjamin Cohen

Triathlon & Endurance Sports Coach

Benjamin A. Cohen is a lifelong endurance athlete, coach, writer, and program builder with a background software engineering, software analytics, and high-performance sport. He is the founder and head coach of True Trail Triathlon Coaching, where he works with athletes from beginners to world-championship competitors. His roster has included former Olympians, national and provincial champions, and first-time endurance athletes ranging in age from teenagers to athletes in their seventies.

Cohen’s coaching philosophy blends scientific rigor with practical experience in the endurance sports industry. He designs long-term training programs for triathlon and running, coordinates clinics and group workouts, and helps athletes prepare for events ranging from local 5Ks to Ironman-distance races. His work emphasizes inclusive coaching environments and individualized training, including experience supporting athletes with complex medical conditions and disabilities.

Before transitioning fully into endurance coaching, Ben employed his Physics degree in the private-sector science industry, working on MRI magnets and Fuel Cells, and then later in software engineering. In that role, he mastered generative AI and machine learning. His technical background continues to influence his work in sport, where he applies data analysis, training metrics, and automated systems to athlete development and coaching operations.

Alongside coaching, Ben also contributes to community endurance programs and athlete development initiatives, including building the first adult community Triathlon program at Carleton University. He is an NCCP-certified coach through Triathlon Canada and Triathlon Ontario. He also performs other roles in the endurance sports industry, including co-directing races, timing operations, and writing.

This writing focuses on technique, mindset, and the role of gen-AI in the endurance training and coaching landscape. Ben holds a Master of Science in Engineering from Clarkson University and a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Philosophy from McGill University. Through his writing and coaching, he focuses on translating sports science and performance data into clear, practical insights for everyday endurance athletes.
