How do you help your oncology clients at Fresh Start Fitness?

I provide specialized support to our oncology clients by offering tailored fitness programs that address the unique needs and challenges they face during and after cancer treatment. Our approach is centered around creating a safe and supportive environment where clients can improve their physical health, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life.

Cancer treatment can take a toll on the body, often resulting in fatigue, muscle weakness, and decreased mobility. That's why having a specialized certification in oncology fitness is vital to developing personalized workout plans that are specifically designed to help them regain strength, increase energy levels, and improve flexibility. I work closely with their providers as a team, so we can focus on a customized fitness program that is gentle yet effective, considering any physical limitations or medical concerns.

My most important goal for my clients is to empower them to take control of their health and wellness, improve their quality of life, and rediscover a sense of strength and resilience during and after cancer treatment.

Can you tell us more about your work and how you ended up where you are today?

My journey into the world of oncology fitness began with a deeply personal experience that ignited a passion within me to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and survivors. Several years ago, a close friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer, and witnessing their struggle through treatment profoundly impacted me. I observed firsthand the physical, emotional, and psychological toll that cancer can take on an individual, as well as the transformative power of exercise in aiding their recovery journey.

Motivated by this experience, I embarked on a path of specialized training in oncology fitness, eager to explore how physical activity could support individuals facing cancer. Armed with a background in fitness and a newfound passion for helping others, I founded Fresh Start Fitness with the vision of creating a supportive environment where everyone, especially cancer patients and survivors, could receive personalized support and guidance to improve their health and well-being.

What kind of audience do you target your business to?

Our target audience primarily consists of individuals who are currently undergoing cancer treatment or are cancer survivors. We understand the unique needs and challenges that these individuals face, both physically and emotionally, and we provide specialized support to help them navigate their cancer journey.

Our programs are designed to cater to individuals of all fitness levels and abilities, from those who may be new to exercise to those who are looking to maintain or regain their strength and mobility during or after cancer treatment. We also welcome individuals who may be seeking support in managing the side effects of treatment, such as fatigue, nausea, and loss of muscle mass.

In addition to our primary focus on cancer patients and survivors, we also extend our services to caregivers and loved ones who may be seeking support and guidance in supporting their loved ones through their cancer journey. Our inclusive approach aims to create a supportive community where everyone affected by cancer can find the resources, encouragement, and empowerment they need to thrive.

What are your current goals for your business?

Our current goals revolve around expanding our reach and impact within the oncology fitness community while continuing to provide the highest quality of support and care to our clients. One of our primary objectives is to increase awareness about the importance of exercise in cancer recovery and survivorship, both within the medical community and among the general public. We aim to educate healthcare professionals about the benefits of incorporating exercise into cancer treatment plans and collaborate with oncology centers to offer our services as a complementary resource for their patients.

Ultimately, our biggest goal is to continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals affected by cancer, empowering them to reclaim their health, vitality, and sense of hope as they navigate their cancer journey. Through our dedication to excellence, innovation, and compassion, we strive to be a beacon of support and inspiration for all those who walk through our doors.

Is there something special that keeps you motivated?

Absolutely! There is something deeply special that keeps me motivated in my work It's the profound sense of purpose and fulfillment that comes from knowing that I am making a meaningful difference in the lives of others, particularly those who are facing one of the most challenging experiences imaginable: battling cancer. Every day, I am inspired by the resilience, courage, and determination of our clients as they work tirelessly to overcome obstacles and reclaim their health and vitality.

Moreover, witnessing the transformative impact that exercise can have on our clients' physical, emotional, and psychological well-being is incredibly motivating. Whether it's seeing someone regain strength, improve mobility, or simply rediscover a sense of joy and empowerment in their life, these moments serve as powerful reminders of the profound impact that our work can have.

Our Fresh Start Fitness family is truly special. Knowing that we are all on this journey together, supporting and uplifting one another through the highs and lows, fuels my passion and dedication to our mission.

What makes you feel out of your comfort zone? How do you handle these types of situations?

Stepping out of my comfort zone often occurs when faced with new challenges or opportunities for growth, especially in the ever-evolving landscape of oncology fitness. One aspect that can make me feel out of my comfort zone is navigating unfamiliar territory in terms of expanding our services or reaching new audiences. This could include exploring innovative approaches to fitness programming, adopting new technologies, or venturing into unfamiliar markets.

To handle these situations, I rely on a combination of adaptability, resilience, and a willingness to embrace change. First and foremost, I recognize that feeling uncomfortable is a natural part of the growth process, and I view it as an opportunity to stretch my capabilities and expand my horizons. I approach these situations with an open mind, seeking out opportunities for learning and collaboration with others who may have expertise in areas where I may be less familiar.

I lean on the support of my beautiful wife, Jessica and our amazing family. I’m a huge proponent of working as a team, and seek guidance from mentors or industry experts who can provide valuable insights and perspectives. By leveraging the collective knowledge and resources available to me, I am better equipped to navigate unfamiliar territory and overcome any challenges that may arise. Ultimately, I view stepping out of my comfort zone as an essential part of personal and professional development, and I embrace these opportunities as pathways to growth, innovation, and success.

Have you encountered any major challenges during your journey and how have these affected you?

Of course! Like any journey, my path as an oncology fitness specialist and the owner of Fresh Start Fitness has been marked by various challenges and opportunities. One significant challenge I encountered early on was overcoming skepticism and misconceptions about the role of exercise in cancer treatment and recovery. Many individuals, including some within the medical community, were hesitant to embrace the idea of incorporating fitness into cancer care, believing it to be too strenuous or potentially harmful for patients undergoing treatment.

Another challenge I faced was building awareness and credibility for Fresh Start Fitness within the oncology community. As a relatively new player in the field, establishing trust and recognition among clients and healthcare providers was essential for our success. This involved demonstrating our expertise, professionalism, and commitment to quality care through our actions and outcomes.

These challenges have ultimately strengthened my resolve and deepened my passion for my work. My biggest inspiration comes from the countless patient stories of bravery and courage that have taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, and staying true to my values and mission, even in the face of adversity.

Tell us about your greatest career achievement so far.

One of my greatest career achievements thus far has been witnessing the profound impact that Fresh Start Fitness has had on the lives of our clients. There have been countless moments of triumph, resilience, and transformation that stand out as testament to the power of our work. However, if I were to pinpoint one particular achievement, it would be the success stories of our clients who have overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to reclaim their health and vitality in the face of cancer.

Witnessing the transformation of our clients and knowing that we have played a part in helping them overcome adversity and reclaim their lives is an achievement that fills me with immense pride and gratitude. It serves as a constant reminder of the profound impact that our work can have on the lives of others and reaffirms our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the oncology fitness community.

What would you like to achieve for yourself and your business in the future?

For Fresh Start Fitness, my vision is to continue growing and evolving as a leading provider of oncology fitness services, both locally and beyond. This includes expanding our reach to serve a broader audience of cancer patients and survivors, potentially through the development of online programs or partnerships with healthcare institutions. I also hope to foster a vibrant and inclusive community of support for our clients, where they can connect, share experiences, and find inspiration and encouragement on their cancer journey.

Additionally, I am passionate about advocating for greater recognition and integration of oncology fitness into mainstream cancer care. This may involve collaborating with healthcare providers, policymakers, and advocacy organizations to promote the importance of exercise as an essential component of cancer treatment and survivorship. Ultimately, my goal is to continue making a positive impact on the lives of individuals affected by cancer, empowering them to live their fullest lives and thrive beyond their diagnosis.
