Since 2003, Susan Gale has devoted her life to people of all ages who want to understand intuition. Whether it is a one-on-one session, group class, retreat, or online course, Susan has crafted many ways for those who are interested to learn how soul speaks to them through their personal intuitive language. She is passionate about her mission to create experiences for people of all ages so that they can find their unique connection to spirit. Her work at A Place of Light has not gone unnoticed. She appeared on A&E’s “Psychic Kids: Their Sixth Sense,” and her teachings are mentioned by authors John Holland (Spirit Whisperer), Maureen Hancock (The Medium Next Door), and Caron B. Goode (Kids Who See Ghosts).

Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

My life has always been around my call to teach. I am happiest when someone is learning and growing and love to create spaces and experiences that make that happen.

For many years before co-founding A Place of Light, I worked with children in public school and a sole-proprietorship school as well as camp, school age child care, and early childhood programs.

My passion is seeing people belong to themselves, secure in their beliefs. That passion guides me in all interactions with others.

Can you provide a brief overview of A Place of Light and its founding principles? What inspired you to start this venture?

A Place of Light was inspired by a 3-year-old boy who had been labeled autistic but was actually a telepath. After a telepathic conversation with my son, he came to understand the value of speaking out loud. Although he did tell my son that he didn’t think grownups had much of value to say! Within weeks of that 5-minute conversation, he had a speaking vocabulary of 28 words.

I wondered how many people were getting misdiagnosed and thus lost like this child because they were seen through the wrong lens. And so in 2003, I opened a place where they could be safe to share and learn about their intuitive experiences. While originally planning to work with children, we actually work with people of all ages. Currently, there are four of us who share the responsibility of the center, working through consensus with no hierarchy. This is why you will often see “we” instead of “I” in the answers.

Our teaching is based on indigenous practices and Zen, which are extremely compatible along with the Edgar Cayce Readings. While using very different language, each teaches that we are all unique and responsible for our lives. These are key principles of our teaching.

If interested, you can read more about our philosophy.

What types of products or services does A Place of Light offer? How do you ensure the quality and relevance of your content?

We offer a variety of ways to study with us, from one-on-one sessions that range from 30 minutes to an entire year to an annual six-day retreat. We also offer three ongoing weekly in-person classes, which the students have been attending from a few months to 14 years. Twenty-two workshops have been developed throughout the years, which are also offered from time to time.

The results tell us the quality, and the loyalty of students/clients tell us about the relevancy. We are now in our 21st year!

Recently though, we created a membership site that allows for interaction in many ways. This site is the home for all our courses, events, articles, and videos. Based on a monthly subscription rate, there are no additional costs for any of the offers on this site. We have good conversations on this site, which is accessible only to members. Often we speak of things such as handling energetic attachments and having frequent conversations with those who have passed away that would raise a few eyebrows! So, this level of privacy allows members to speak freely.

What sets A Place of Light apart from others in your niche? How do you differentiate your brand?

Because of my 14 years of study with an indigenous spiritual teacher, much of our teaching focuses on energy, how it affects our lives and health on a daily basis and how to work with it. Students have a deep understanding of what is happening when doing any kind of intuitive/healing/spiritual work as well as in their daily lives.

We are also focused on teaching people how to understand and practice on their own. A good number of those who have studied with us online and in-person have gone on to open their own practices as mediums or readers! This was a happy result of the teachings.

The other thing that sets us apart is that we teach a way of life that allows intuition to flow more freely. We also address the misdiagnoses of bipolar and schizophrenia when they are actually the presence of being an empath or medium with no control. A number of our students have gotten off medication and released from psychiatric care as a result of their studies, although this was indeed a surprising side effect and definitely not a promise!

Who comes to A Place of Light?

Generally, people come to answer one of three questions. Thankfully, the same exercises answer all three! Some come because they are curious to find out what intuition is all about and if they have any abilities.

Others come because they know they are intuitive but want to find out what this means and how can it be useful.

Finally, some people come because they either think they are crazy or have been told they are crazy and want to understand and control their abilities.

Tell us about your greatest career achievement so far.

I have a personal achievement and a community achievement!

I am happy to have co-authored a book about raising children so that they do not forget their intuitive abilities, Raising Intuitive Children through the Edgar Cayce Readings: Just Live It!

I am also happy that the whole community of A Place of Light got together and created a documentary about being intuitive called Not Crazy, Not AloneSo many people had told us “You’ll think I am crazy if I tell you this,” that we just had to make a film about it!

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?

I would like to see people stop making being intuitive so complicated. There is no need for outside props or rituals or drugs. So many people use big words and make being intuitive sound as if it is not an ordinary, everyday part of life. Here at A Place of Light, we have a “swear” jar where people put in a quarter when they use words like amazing, freaky, bizarre, and the like.

Intuition is as normal as breathing.

Tell us about a pivotal moment in your life that brought you to where you are today.

Unlike most people who changed their lives and then went on to teach others how to do the same, I do not have such a story. I have been the same as long as I can remember.

I guess my pivotal moment happened when I was 8. There was a huge light in the room, and out of it came a voice that said “you’re going to be a teacher.” Then it all went away. After that, I was totally focused on teaching. I trained to be a teacher and then an administrator, and that is at the core of what I am.
