Exclusive Interview With Sue Burhoe – Grief And Loss Life Coach & Holistic Practitioner

  • Jan 3, 2022
  • 3 min read

Sue Burhoe is a Grief and Loss Life Coach, Holistic Practitioner, and a Licensed Massage Therapist. Her wisdom runs deep from her personal and professional experience over the past 30 years. In 2014 her partner of 30 years died by suicide, leaving her a solo parent to three children. Less than two years later, she was by the bedside of her dad as he passed from surgery complications. Professionally she spent 25 years working in the medical field.

She eventually left that field to obtain degrees in holistic health, massage therapy, and energy medicine. In 2015 she was certified as a Holistic Life coach, now specializing in grief and loss. Sue uses her vulnerability, warmth, humor, and skills to help clients integrate grief and loss into their life.

Sue is a volunteer with a non-profit for grieving children & families and a healing conversation peer-to-peer volunteer with the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.

Sue Burhoe, Grief And Loss Life Coach, Holistic Practitioner

Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is Sue Burhoe?

I feel like I am a box of chocolate most days. I have lots of flavors and styles—some sweet, some semi-sweet, some serious, some fun and joyful. I am a solo mom navigating life with three adult children who are in the LGBTQ community. I am a loving partner, sister, and daughter. I am a best friend and confidante.

I am endlessly curious and have a fun and adventurous side. I am for the most part easy-breezy, but some days I can get caught up in life and myself and take everything too seriously. I’m a work in progress.

On a professional level, my work includes everything I believe in. I am a certified Holistic Life Coach and have studied extensively grief, trauma, and post-traumatic growth. I am also a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and BodyMind Coach. In addition, I have substantial knowledge in the health and wellness field, having spent twenty-five years in the medical field. I use a blend of Western and Eastern medicine in many of my healing modalities and bring this knowledge to my clients to help heal body, mind, and soul.

What do you do for your clients as a Grief and Loss Life Coach?

A Grief Coach is a professional who understands the impact of loss in every part of a person’s life. I support and help people integrate their grief into their lives. Serving as a guide in unfamiliar territory by talking with you will help you understand the complexity of emotions from grief.

I’ll support you during the transition and help you gain a deeper understanding of the grieving process and how it changes your life. I help you integrate grief into your life and help you find meaning going forward. Also, I’ll help you rebuild your life and find meaning and purpose, and together, we’ll set goals and focus on the future.

What are some of the benefits of working with a grief coach?

Benefits include feeling less alone and knowing that there is someone who understands what you’re going through; gaining a better understanding of grief and recognizing what you need to do to move forward; having the ability to realize that there is growth in grief; and finding meaning in your life and learning to love again.

With whom do you work?

My clients range in age from16 to senior citizens. Clients include suicide loss & traumatic death survivors, those facing anticipatory death (terminal illness) and out of order death, widows/widowers & partner loss, and uncoupling & divorced men and women. I also facilitate grief support for children and teens.

Other clients include young adults feeling lost and lacking direction, people facing old grief, and life transitions, including health issues, empty nesters, starting over, and dealing with COVID.
