In today's discourse, we delve into a transformative paradigm in leadership, aptly termed "Believe and Inspire Leadership," a stark contrast to the archaic model we're ensnared in. Picture a scene at UCLA, a room overflowing with professionals, each nodding in agreement to a universal experience: working under a leader who failed to harness their full potential, fixated solely on the ephemeral gains of quarterly profits.

Entrepreneurs handshaking during a meeting with their colleagues in the office

This conventional leadership approach, as critiqued by the esteemed Bob Chapman, CEO of Barry-Wehmuller and heralded as the third leading CEO globally, is entrenched in a detrimental profits-over-people mindset. Such a philosophy not only stifles employee engagement but also blunts the company's overall potential. It's a stark reminder that leadership fixated on mere numbers misses the grandeur of human capability.

Our current leadership landscape is marred by the relics of the Industrial Revolution, a "Demand and Acquiesce" style, anachronistic in today's rapidly evolving information era. This archaic method fails to leverage the plethora of talents residing in our workforce, leading to a stifling work environment where innovation and creativity are smothered.

However, the past two years have precipitated monumental shifts. The pandemic has upended traditional work models, ushering in remote working and triggering a mass reassessment of career goals and aspirations. This change is encapsulated in the "Great Resignation," a phenomenon where a significant portion of the workforce is not just leaving jobs but seeking meaningful contributions to society.

Yet, amidst this transformative landscape, many leaders cling to outdated methodologies, evident in the persistent "Demand and Acquiesce" model. This approach, reminiscent of a carrot-and-stick policy, often results in a demotivated workforce and a culture of compliance rather than commitment.

Enter the era of "Believe and Inspire Leadership," exemplified by Satya Nadella's tenure at Microsoft. This leadership style fosters a growth mindset, encouraging a collaborative and inspiring work environment. It's about transforming compliance into commitment, transaction into transformation. It breathes life into organizations, nurturing a culture where employees are not just managed but truly led.

As we navigate this new terrain, it's imperative for leaders to embrace an open mindset, recognizing that the collective intelligence of a motivated team far exceeds the sum of its parts. It's about moving beyond fear, embracing challenges, and unlocking the immense potential within each individual.

In closing, I extend an invitation to embark on this journey of self-discovery and leadership transformation. Through a comprehensive assessment and practical tips, each one of us can contribute to a more vibrant, inspired, and productive workplace, one fantastic day at a time. Remember, the journey to exceptional leadership begins with a single step, a step towards believing in and inspiring those around us.
