Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage massage has taken the world of holistic body treatments by storm. Increasing number of invasive cosmetic treatments, that require manual lymphatic drainage to be performed on weekly basis during the recovery period, definitely helped this treatment to be one of the most popular types of massage.

Before and after body enhancement of a woman.

BLD is a type of variation of manual lymphatic drainage, like Vodder, developed to help reduce swelling, improve lymphatic flow, decrease bloating, and give an overall boost to the immune system.

Unlike Vodder, however, Brazilian lymphatic drainage is performed over oil using light to medium rhythmic strokes to move lymph fluid from the tissues towards the lymph nodes.

Incredibly popular treatment has the ability to enhance the overall appearance of the skin, instantly get rid of puffiness, detox the system, reduce swelling as well as target cellulite.

What is the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system is a network of vessels that runs throughout the body, similar to the circulatory system. It helps to remove waste products, excess fluid, and toxins from the body. The lymph nodes are small organs that are located along the lymphatic vessels. They filter the lymph fluid and help to fight infection.

Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system does not have a centralised pump (like a heart) and relies heavily on muscle contraction. This is another reason why exercising is so important for us (especially high-intensity workouts that make us sweat).

Benefits of Brazilian lymphatic drainage

  • Reduced puffiness and swelling

  • Improved circulation

  • Boosted immune system

  • Relief from pain and discomfort

  • Improved skin tone and texture

  • Reduced appearance of cellulite

What to expect during a Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage treatment

A Brazilian lymphatic drainage massage typically lasts between 30 to 90 minutes. During the treatment the therapist will focus on individual areas or perform full body treatment.

The pressure will be adapted depending on whether a client is recovering after a surgery or not. Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage is very versatile and can be performed on most people.

Abdomen massage is a very important part of the treatment, so it is advisable not to have any food at least a few hours before the treatment.

Is Brazilian lymphatic drainage right for me?

Brazilian lymphatic drainage is generally safe for most healthy people. However, it is not recommended for people who have certain medical conditions, such as lymphedema, blood clots, or infections. It is also important to consult with your doctor before getting a massage if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • Drink plenty of water before and after your massage to help flush toxins from your body.

  • Avoid strenuous activity and heavy food for up to 12 hours after your massage.

  • Due to the accumulation of toxins in the body, you may experience dizziness after the massage. It is normal and will pass.

  • To promote and support the results of the treatment, dry brushing is also advisable as aftercare.

Brazilian lymphatic drainage is a safe and effective way to improve your health and well-being. If you are looking for a massage that can help you to reduce puffiness, improve circulation, and boost your immune system, then Brazilian lymphatic drainage may be a good option for you.
