Has your mission or people-focused business been overshadowed by the stress of managing your overhead?

A group of people inside a room.

In the first few years of business, it’s natural and easy to be “win” focused but as your revenue and team grows, it’s easy to slip into a “not losing” mindset.

What exactly does it mean to be one or the other?

A winning mindset is focused on success and achievement, while a fear of losing mindset is focused on avoiding failure.

People with a winning mindset are more likely to take risks, persevere in the face of challenges, and learn from their mistakes.

People with a fear of losing mindset are more likely to avoid risks, give up easily, and dwell on their failures.

When you focus on not losing, you will lose every time.

In basketball, if you focus on not missing the shot, you will miss it every time, because your body movements are being led by stress.

You can’t control whether you miss or make the shot.

You can’t control whether you win or lose the game.

All you can control is your mindset and body movements.

The same is true in business. You can control your beliefs and actions. You can’t control the outcome.

Winning Mindset

  • Focus on what you can control

  • Learn how to motivate and communicate with individual employees

  • Create seasons of rest and peak performance

  • Learn to manage stress

  • Make proactive, peaceful decisions

  • View slow and busy seasons as an advantage

Fear of Losing Mindset

  • Want to control everything, including team members

  • Push peak performance all year long

  • Stress manages you

  • Make reactive, fear-based decisions

  • View slow and busy seasons as a disadvantage

Are you making decisions from a place of fear and not losing?

Or, are you making decisions that are people and mission-focused?

One will result in internal stress and decreased team performance.

The other will increase your chances of everybody winning (you, your team, and your profits).
