As a Marketing Strategist, I hear the phrase, “I hate marketing!” upwards of 100 times per day. I get it, you think you hate marketing. It’s not where you want to be investing your time and energy. You have a bigger purpose and mission to fulfill. It makes perfect sense to the logical side of your brain.

The truth? You don’t hate marketing. You hate the unnecessary parts of marketing, like going live, creating flashy graphics, writing long emails, or just being on social media. None of these is necessary for marketing your business. You may have been told this, you might even believe it, but it’s nothing more than a story.

All you need is a way to get in touch with your audience. This can be online or offline. It can be your activity to manage or someone else’s. It can be on social media, email, a blog, in the media, on podcasts, at events, or the infinite other possibilities that exist for you to share your offers with the world.

When you choose a method of connection you enjoy, your audience will feel it. This is better for business because your actions will feel better, be more magnetic, and convert higher. Find your method of sharing your business with the world. There is a way for you to market that feels great and works, I assure you.

The next time you desire to spread a false narrative about what it takes to run a successful business, do it in your favor. Like, “I can market any way I want as long as it’s where my ideal audience is spending time.” It may also sound like, “I started my business to connect with people and help them. It’s the part of my work I like best – and I get to choose how I do it!”

Marketing is not sleazy or hard, and it certainly is not something to hate or fear. Embrace your strengths and bring them into your process for marketing. Lean on others for support. Over time, if you deliver on your promises to your customers, they’ll pick up the marketing for you – especially when you invite and encourage them to do so!
