As humans, we dream, aspire, and desire to become. Yet some will risk it all in the pursuit of entrepreneurship while others allow the fear of failure to prevent them from pursuing their dreams.
Lakeshia Singh-McKay otherwise, known as Key McKay, is an Entrepreneur Coach with expert knowledge in Digital Business Development. She was born in Georgetown, Guyana, and migrated with her parents and siblings to Washington, D.C, in the United States at the age of ten.

She stated being birth in Guyana means being born into a competitive environment fueled by entrepreneurs, street vendors, and small business owners. Having spent her childhood in Guyana and the other half in the United States exposed her to two different worlds. Which gave her the benefit of building her life using the lessons she learned from the best of both worlds.
While living in Guyana, her parents owned and operated their own business. Being business owners afforded them the luxury to set their work schedule around family life. When the family migrated to the United States, her parents became employees. As a result, their family's work balance life suffered. Being a recipient of the benefits of business ownership and the pain points of being an employee became her driving force for pursuing entrepreneurship.
Upon graduating from high school, Key relocated to Miami, FL, to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration at Florida Memorial University. While attending college, she met her husband Charles McKay IV. Together they became the co-owners of McKay's Music Lessons. A music education company dedicated to empowering the next generation of creators through music.
Being one of nine children from a low-income family household, Key experienced firsthand the challenges entrepreneurs with access to limited financial resources are faced with when building a business. This experience motivated her to become the Founder and CEO of Grow With Key. A Digital Business Development Consultancy committed to educating and providing business owners with practical solutions to build and grow their businesses.
Today Key's primary focus is philanthropy through entrepreneurship. Her experience as an immigrant residing in the United States often bullied during her childhood due to a lack of understanding of her Guyanese heritage, led her to launch Guyanese Swag™. A lifestyle brand to raise awareness about Guyanese heritage and culture through fashion.
In her book, The Bootstrap Hustle, readers receive insights into her journey as an entrepreneur. It shares the experiences of her failures along with her strategies and formulas for success in life and business. Hence, we are thrilled to inform you Key has joined the Brainz Magazine Family as an Executive Contributor. Subscribe to be the first to receive updates about her future articles.
