Priority Matrix is a tool to help you identify critical and unnecessary activities and projects. Starting with a priority matrix will help you pinpoint the 1-2 crucial focal points for 2023.

Here are four steps to creating your 2023 business priorities using a priority matrix. Download a free 2023 Priority Matrix to help you with this task.

Identify the 1-2 most important focal points of your business priority matrix in the "Top Priority" in the top left box.

Each focal point can take quite a bit of work to accomplish fully. As a solopreneur, you should know your resources, including your budget. Focal points should be distinct, yet they support each other. Examples are Revenue and Visibility. Both are distinct of each, but being successful in one can enhance the other.

You will use your focal points to craft your primary business goals for 2023.

Identify the 1-2 long-term business goals in the "Long-Term Goals" top right box.

Again, the quantity of your long-term goals is less important than the quality. These are goals you may focus on at a later time and date. Your top priorities should contribute to your long-term goals. For example, you will need more revenue to scale and systematize. Visibility helps to support your brand while you scale your business.

Place ‘Out of Control’ habits and activities in the bottom left box of your business priority matrix.

These habits and activities must be addressed, as they reduce your effectiveness. You may delegate the activities or deal with them yourself, so they are no longer a problem. This box should include activities and tasks that will impede the success of your top priorities and long-term goals.

Identify and eliminate "Time Wasters."

Place habits and activities wasting your time, energy, and resources in the bottom right. These items need to be eliminated immediately for a successful outcome.

Once you've completed your 2023 business priority matrix, create goals that support the success of your top priorities and long-term goals. Again, quality is more important than quantity. Keep the goals SMART (Specific, Measurable, Actionable at this time of your business, Reasonable at this time of your business, and Time-oriented).
