Eva M. Gordon, LCSW
Psychotherapist and Mental Health Consultant
Eva M. Gordon, LCSW, is the founder and director of Life Guide LCSW, P.C., a mental health practice providing psychotherapy and community mental health education in the New York City area. Her focus is on providing mental health treatment to the Black community as a source of healing and hope. She mainly focuses on Black professional women ages 30 and up who struggle with unhealthy relationships. The goal is to help these women recognize that self-care is their birthright and not a privilege. Ms. Gordon employs several strategies, including exploring behavioral patterns, emotional management, and understanding how multiple factors contribute to a person’s mental health throughout their lifespan.
Eva, a native of Brooklyn, NY, completed her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2000. Her professional experience began with data collection in youth drug and violence prevention research at Weill-Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. She continued her career as a case manager at Seamen’s Society for Children and Families in Brooklyn, which focused on general preventive services in the child welfare system. Eva then became a Substance Abuse Prevention counselor at the John Adams High School SPARK program and then completed her Master of Science in Social Work at Columbia University School of Social Work in 2007. After graduating from Columbia, Eva moved into program management at Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement. She soon became the Program Manager for the East New York Community Partnership Program for eight years.
After 10 years of program management and development, Eva provided psychotherapy at the Center for Psychotherapy in Brooklyn, NY, for 7 years. She provided mental health treatment for children, teens, and adults at the center. She also co-facilitated the parent support group at the center.
Eva is passionate about working with families and incorporating writing assignments into her clinical work with clients to show them the importance of expressive writing. This is especially important for the Black community. Psychotherapy is a healing process, and clients need to learn how to express themselves effectively, which occurs after they understand their feelings and thought patterns. Eva enjoys creative writing and is completing a novel for teens and young adults.
