Joseph Nucci is a therapist, writer and entrepreneur with interests in policy and innovation in the mental healthcare space. He developed a political consciousness at Wesleyan University, where he majored in the College of Social Studies (CSS). CSS is an interdisciplinary major combining political science, economics, history and philosophy. He minored in Social, Cultural and Critical Theory.
After college he worked at a bipartisan lobbying firm in DC. Several months after the 2016 election, he quit to start a business called Bubble with political influencers and psychologists. They aimed to train business leaders to effectively navigate political diversity in office settings. Joseph wrote his first book, Bubble Dynamics, during this time, to highlight the psychology used in Bubble’s trainings. While Bubble achieved a proof of concept, the Bubble team ultimately disbanded. The feedback was that there was no market for such a service and that political polarization would not negatively impact the workplace.
After Bubble, Joseph briefly worked on a documentary film called We Rise Up, which was featured at over fifteen film festivals around the world. He then attended Northwestern University and received his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Psychology. His practicum, internship and foundational clinical training was at the Capital Hill Consortium for Counseling and Consultation (CCCC). CCCC is a large, reputable, out-patient, private practice located in our nation’s capital.
In 2021, Joseph moved to Colorado to attend law school at the University of Denver. Last minute, he deferred his acceptance and opened his own private practice, Denver Minds. With the effects of the pandemic and political unrest impacting behavioral health in every facet of society, he felt he was a better contribution to society providing mental health care and will return to school at a later time.
